Post Counts

Personally, I don't really care either way, but I would fall on the side of not bring post counts back.... per se. I do however, enjoy the ranking and the stars. I wouldn't mind seeing some form of the ranking come back, because it's something fun and enjoyable to look at, but I don't need to know an exact number. If I wanted to know it, it's always in the profiles.
Also, this is about expressing opinions, not about a debate. If you want to debate the issue, go to the other topic. Any posts made that are challenging an opinion will be moved to the other topic. I want OPINIONS ONLY in this topic.

I posted this in the other topic: How about bringing back the star ranking but relating it to how long a user has been here, not post count? That could bring back a little fun.
Also, if post counts were brought back to the front (as such), how about including chit chat posts so that the post count is less serious/gives less seniority? Once again.... a little fun never hurt anybody. (I am against bringing post counts to the 'front' if they stay as they are now because that gives ambiguous seniority. Post counts shouldn't imply that someone is senior).

A) it gives us a unique edge on other sides b/c not alot of other sides use them
B) it shows people who have been here longer (or who have posted more) so you can know who to go to per se, privatly...plus if they see "ohh look he has 1500 posts - then they can check their profile to make sure they are good posts or w/e
C) they don't hurt anyone, so i don't see why not to bring htem back

yes but alot of those are "fan" based sites...
i have been to a few other helping sites and hte majority of them don't use them for one reason or anyother
~Jeff~
but the main question you have to ask yourself is NOT whether other sites have them or w/e, it is the sole purpose is are they harming anyone? and the answer to that is no . . .
its like avatars or signatures, they don't harm anyone, it just makes us unique in a sence - as do post counts...
so i say that we either get back out post-counts or completly swipe everyhting clean and make ourselves look naked w/o an avatar and signature...

I think post counts need to exist in all areas except staff, to be honest. As I said above, it would mean post counts are less serious.

Pros:
-Like it or not someone who has been around the site longer and posted more, would be more likely to be able to help a newbie with technical issues and direction on how to use the site if a staff member was not available.
-I find the stars fun and entertaining and possibly a slight incentive for putting effort in responding to threads.
Cons:
-Some users tend to abuse post counts by posting unhelpful responses that can lead to a clouded thread with few actually helpful responses. (This is a problem that could easily be solved with staff intervention however, if a particular person adopted this behavior, action could be taken)
Just for the record, I do not support chit-chat/lounge posts counting and I do not feel that a post count results in a "Seniority" of advice, this is a site for help from teens for teens, everyone is pretty much equal on an advice giving level, some have more experience with certain things and others in other things, this has NO relation to post counts and never has. I find excluding the lounge posts as an incentive for people to post in the serious threads, which are the main focus of this site last I checked. But, don't get me wrong, I like the Lounge hehe, especially the little drink establishments we now have there :-P lena & Sinical.

if post counts are reinstated (okay my fingers are still crossed, they are turning a little blue, but low and behold they are still crossed) it should be the way they were before w/ post counts not being used in the lounge area (though in the school issues area, so that owuld have to be moved for clarification)
but i have a really high inclination that post counts will not be reinstated, so i guess it will just irrelevant...
(well reinstated for the general public to see for every post, we all know post counts are the way they were in invidividual profiles)
