I am willing to bring back the ranking stars, in fact I already set them up.

It works as follows.

A new member just signing up will start with 1 star.

HelpingTeens Member 0 *

When they reach 250 posts they get a second star.

HelpingTeens Member 250 **

After another 250 they get a 3rd star

HelpingTeens Member 500 ***

From that point on it goes up every 500 posts, untill you reach 2000.

HelpingTeens Member 1000 ****
HelpingTeens Member 1500 *****
HelpingTeens Member 2000 ******

After that you have to go to 5000 to get another star, and that is as high as it goes.

HelpingTeens Member 5000 *******

So in total you can achieve 7 stars.

How does this work for everyone?

I can say I like the stars. It's pretty nice to have something as far as decorative. Sounds fair to me.

Alicia,

I must ask, how is this different then having the post counts visible? (in terms of the reasons why post counts are frowned upon by some, I.E. seniority etc)

It is essentially the same thing without the numbers, I don't see why the system can't just be restored to have the stars and the post counts. To be quite honest this looks to me like a move to kinda give people what they want while still holding back on part of it for no particularly valid reason.

You know what is funny. I didn't remove postcounts from the postbit section of posts. They were gone before I got here. Yet I am always asked why I removed them.

I had removed the star system and thus replaced it.

Honestly though. Whats the goal of this site? Helping teens or postcounts?

Post counts. Duh.

Haha. I think the stars are fun and pretty. I liked the member rankings.... like "I have no life" ect. Those were funny. Not saying I want them back, they were just entertaining.

I would also like to apologize for my use of the word pretty. I'm pretty out of it.

Honestly, I don't really care because I never paid attention to them. All it is to me is another number to look at every time you make a post. The stars are just an "extra."

Alicia,

I did not suggest that you personally removed the post counts display, I wanted and explanation as to how you think just the stars are any different from the stars + post counts, I think you may have misread my post:

I like the stars and support the stars + post counts.

The Goal of this site is to help teens, post counts in no way take away from that goal. So in my opinion that question is irrelevant.

okay but it gives the site a little flavor, which this site is lacking a LOT now.

I didn't misread. The stars really serve the same purpose as post counts, and there more attractive.

Not trying to argue here, but how does post counts give the site flavor? Every site has post counts, so its nothing different from anything else.

You can still see the post counts in the user's profile. And the stars are the same thing as post counts so...? What's the big deal?

I like the stars, tho. They're fun, I suppose.

Everyone liked the stars and everyone liked the post counts. They were removed because a few people decided amongst themselves what this site "should be" and disregarded the opinions of practically everyone else. Personally I never once saw a newbie complain about the post counts making them feel inferior - if anything it gives them something to strive for.

People will always be recognised and appreciated if they give intelligent, thoughtful advice.
So why have the postcounts/stars?
BECAUSE PEOPLE SIMPLY LIKED THEM. No other reason.

I've been at this site 5 years (under a different s/n) and it only started going downhill when all these regulations for 'fairness' entered into it.

They are for FUN. If we don't have FUN - people will start running because even THIS PLACE starts to make them feel depressed. I don't think it should be a big deal. If people are happy with them - that's what counts. For those who don't care - probably don't even pay attention. For those who hate them - ignore them and I've never once heared them complain except when the topic is brought up. If the place doesn't feel friendly, they wont feel comfortable and post. It's like playing a game and helping/getting help at the same time.

The stars are back, isn't that fun? I don't understand why when one good fun thing comes back, someone brings up another fun thing they WANT to have. Why the arguing? Alicia brang something back you guys wanted. Woo
