I always find whatever sort of artistic project I'm on, I do it entirely for myself. I took music at school, and hated having to obey 'music rules' because it took away the beauty of my music in my mind. Also, if I'm painting, I want to choose what to paint, what materials to use, and how to go about it.
So is your art for you?

my art is soley for me, I hated art in school (well, I loved getting to paint, but not HOW to paint) I don't like rules when it comes to art.

I don't like guidelines ALL the time. There are times when I do enjoy learning new techniques, so I'll look up guidelines and go step by step. For example, when I'm working in Illustrator, I'll look up tutorials to learn new things to later use in my art. Then, there are times when I have an idea in my mind and I'll freelance draw, paint, create graphics. Nevertheless, my art is always for myself first.

I've always hated guidelines when it comes to "art". I can't draw, paint, or even write well. My art is in Photos. I've always done it for me and only for me. I'm going to take a class on it in college and I'm not looking forward to having to follow a "rule". I figure it's worth the knowledge that the class will teach me.
