So, a while ago, I was sexually active and shaving. I think I may have shaved too close once, and caused ingrown hairs.

I have been tested for STDs and tested positive for Herpes type I. To my knowledge, I have not seen signs of this disease yet.

I have some bumps in the genital area, and as far as I can tell, they are not herpes. They do not hurt when I touch them. They have been there for several months. The "main" one has been there for about a year.

I thought it might have been something else (maybe genital warts), but I'm really not sure, since i've done some research and found it does not match descriptions of herpes, or genital warts. I don't know what else it may be.

If it is ingrown hair, what can I do? They obviously are not going away. I am somewhat tempted to just take a razor blade to them (obviously, this would be a bad idea, seriously) because i want them gone. Is it possible it's something else?

I'm starting to contemplate seeing a doctor. I would've/should've sooner, but it's expensive and I don't make alot of money.

None of us are drs. so the best thing that I can do is tell you that you need to see a dr. It's better to be safe than sorry. Sorry, I couldn't be more help.

I agree with lil. Better safe then sorry. Ingrown hairs usually go away after a week or so. What you have doesn't sound like that.

I was not aware they went away after a week or so. I thought they stuck around longer because the skin was physically in the way of the hair.

I will make an appointment. I don't know who to call or what, but i'll figure it out. I have to.

I get ingrown hairs all the time because I shave down there. I have never had one last more then a week. I may be different, but yeah never had one more then a week. I just searched "ingrown hair" and found this link:

Well since you tested positive for herpes once already I would suggest seeing a doctor about the bumps before you try anything.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.
Making a dr appt may seem like the obvious choice, but I guess I just needed someone to tell me to do it.

I've got an appointment scheduled.

I guess I thought maybe there'd be someone with a similar experience who could help, but a doctor would definitely be better.

I saw a doctor today, and just thought I'd post an update.

It's genital warts.

Probably not the news you were wanting to hear; but hey you went to the doctors... got your answer and now you can work on treating it. No more guessing or worrying.
