I think it's to reinforce what you learned in class that day. So you don't go home and forget, and when it comes to exam times you have less work

Its pretty crazy we spend 6-7 hours in school then we have to go home and work. But it's for a reason, and if you actually try, you'd get something out of it 
My mum doesn't care if I don't do it because she adopts the attitude that we shouldn't have to do work outside school hours

i slacked off freshman year, now i have to buckle down and get good grades this year.....which means i will have to do my homework BEFORE school starts...

I used to do my homework during class while the teacher was talking.
I knew how to do it already anyway, and I'd already taught myself what they were teaching. <shrug
Homework isn't that bad. It makes sure that you've learned whatever it is you need to learn so that you don't fail the test.
Teachers aren't there to give you a good time, they're there to teach you something.
