Post by Halo_n_Horns » Sat Mar 20, 2004 6:08 am

Hey everyone. Whilst I was searching the net, i came across a good website which will translate words or sentences for you...there are loads of languages to choose from. So if you really need help go to http://www.freetranslation.com

Its totally free.

Be careful with these sites. Often the grammar is wrong if you're typing out passages. But they're good for individual words and stuff. Just always check it over, and make sure the grammar is correct. Often they just translate word for word in the order of english, which is (normally) different in foreign languages!

You definitely should not use http://www.freetranslation.com to translate full sentences. It doesn't translate correctly at all and will just end up messing up whatever you are trying to say. It works fine for translating one word at a time but not sentences. I tried it once for translating sentences in English to French and what it came up with made absolutely no sense. Plus, because the sentences are so messed up your teachers will probably be able to figure out what you did and you'll end up getting in trouble.

My spanish teacher, kinda weird :shifty:,

gets pissed when we use those translation sites!

She says that they take the words and just puts them in the order.

example:

the white dog ate a hamberguer

Translation:

el blanco perro come un hamburguesa

but actually it would be in a different order..

they just take a word and translate it w/o putting it in the right order....

~Jeff~

P.S. does that make sence? cuz it kinda confussed me when i re-read it...haha :P

Yeah it can get SCARY if you use those... they use "literal translation" and jump off a cliff can end up being "surf on a moose"
