Mod Application...

Post by Exodus »

When applying to become a mod, why is so much information needed? Telephone number of your parents/guardian for example!? Some of the posters here are 20, with a good chance that they do not live with a parent or guardian. Why is a telephone number, address, etc, required anyway?? Surely email address and a few extra details would suffice??

Just wondering really, I am not trying to complain.

We need it in case of emergencies. When you go volunteer in person, you also have to provide this information just in case something happens to you while at the volunteering place. Well here is the same. Only the admins have access to that information so you can be sure it is safe.

As a mod. i can clearly say that none of that information has been truely used (though it would be sorta cute to get a letter from them :P would make my mom pissed that i gave my addy out but it would be cute...haha...)

But like Adam said its for emergencys...they don't give it to 3rd parties or even to other mods...

In the past I have had to call the police and give the address details of a mentor who said they would commit suicide, after deliberating I decided it was the best thing to do.

That was a rather extreme emergency though, but that's the sort of thing your details might be used for.

I like talking to other mentors as well on the phone, don't get many UK mentors though on these american sites. ~sigh~

You might be able to negotiate not giving out your personal details if your parents have a problem with it??

There are OTHER sites which are a LOT stricter though.. :cap:

Yeah definitely, or PM or MSN or whatever. Sometimes its nice to be able to communicate with the mentors as people though, it's easy to forget we're all real people and not just text on a screen sometimes! :)

I have another question. Um, I applied a while back, and I dunno if they've looked at my application then decided not to take me on. Is that whats happened?

Email Adam about it, it's possible it's sunk to the bottom of his inbox among all the other applications!!

It's very difficult to keep track of so many applications at once sometimes!! :)
