I'm taking my placement tests for college and I need a refresher course on these problems:
Trig Functions and Identities-
Which of the following is Equivalent to 1-cos^2O/cos^2O?
A. sec^2O
B. (csc^2O)-1
C. tan^2O
D. sin^2O
E. -(1/sin^2O)
(the O are those circles with the lines through the middle)
Rational Expressions-
For all r does not =2, r^2-5r+6/r^2-4=?
A. r-3/r+2
B. r-2/r+2
C. r-2/r+3
D. r+3/r-2
E. r+3/r+2
Functions-
If f(4)=0 and f(6)=6, which of the following could represent f(x)?
A. 2/3x-4
B. x+2
C. x-4
D. 3/2x+6
E. 3x-12
I really want to do good on my test so I can get into a higher level Algebra class so any help you can provide would really help me out
Thanx!
Jen

Re: Math (alg & Trig)
I think #1 it's C (tan^2O) because
tan=sin/cos
so
tan^2=sin^2/cos^2
and then
sin^2=1-cos^2
because
sin^2 + cos^2 = 1 (trig identity)---subtract cos^2 from both sides
so
1-cos^2O/cos^2O = tan^2O
Does that make sense. Oh man!, I hope I'm right.
PS--I think what you mean is the circles with the lines through them are the theta symbol.
tan=sin/cos
so
tan^2=sin^2/cos^2
and then
sin^2=1-cos^2
because
sin^2 + cos^2 = 1 (trig identity)---subtract cos^2 from both sides
so
1-cos^2O/cos^2O = tan^2O
