Re: First Job!
depends where you are applying. fast food jobs and department stores usually dont look for experience but higher paying jobs sometimes do. Im sure youll find a job. Just apply to as many as you can. Good Luck.

Re: First Job!
yr welcome...it shouldnt be too difficult. No one ever started their first job with valid experience in the work place so dont worry about it..

Re: First Job!
I just came out of that boat.
I finally got myself a job.
First of all...don't expect to be hired, you have no work experience i think you said, so you're nothing in a sense to them.
Volunteer work looks good because it shows you're nice, and you have sort of worked in the past. I had 3 years doing this summer camp for kids and that looked nice. Also, try creating a resume..they look nice and show that you're trying to get a job. And also if there is a place wher eyou reall wanna work, do a cover letter it personalizes your resume and tells them why they should hired you.
See for me, i've always wanted to work at this certain Fish and Chips place in my area so I just told them how cool their place was and how I've always wanted to work there as a kid growing up.
Try at grocery stores...and places with application froms in case you don't have a resume or anything to put on one. And make sure to have 2-3 goo refereances.
Hope this helps, and good luck. I know it sucked when i kept trying to get my job.
Don't expect many hours starting out either because tey owe you nothing because you're new.
again, goodluck!

Re: First Job!
Everything that NunchakuSteve said is really true. I haven't gotten a real job yet, but I mean, I want to apply for one for this year. I dont' yet know what I want to do though.
Try to get whatever good references you have also. Like, if you have ever babysat for someone (other than family), that's good, and if you have volunteered somewhere, use that. You can also use teachers as references because they know how you are as a student, and could say nice things about you if you were a good student.
I think I'm going to apply to more than one place, so that way there's a better chance that I will get a job.
Cover letter is a good idea also.
Good luck

Re: First Job!
Like I said..you're personalizing your resume.
You would tell them why you would be a great asset to their team, what skills you posess that would be good for that specific job.
Stuff like that, tell them your goals or whatever.

Re: First Job!
You can always make up stuff if you like going that route....b/c remember all those times when you babysat, mowed lawns and shoeveled driveways (I do) for money:D And last summer when you helped out with the Special Need Students at the elementry school near your house or built that old mans fence and feed his cats just b/c you wanted to help out....just make some stuff up if you have too. And about the Special Needs Kids thing, I ACTUALLY helped them and I don't have a paper or anything saying I did (I mention this b/c most of my friends said I had to have a paper)...

Re: First Job!
look at what experience you have and then blag it so it sounds better. for example; if you helped your old aged next door neighbour with the weeding in the garden a few times then you could big that up and make it sound good e.g. "during the summer i was employed by local pensioners to maintain their gardens. my duties included nurturing the flowers, planning the layout and maintaining it's upkeep. I was also responsible for cleaning the equipment and ensuring that everything was stored safely". LOL, it may sound pretty funny on there, but to an employer it tells them that you were responsible, knew your job AND are looked upon as a good person in the neighbourhood.
NEVER EVER EVER just write a one-sentence job description in a reference - it makes u look bad. always develop it and add little things to it.
