Freaking Out...eek!
Ok well..School starts in about 3 weeks. I'll be going into my Senior year of high school. And Im very scared but still excited. First off, im taking all these great classes that i know I'll have fun it. But thats not the problem. The problem is college. Im not sure where I want to go or even what I want to do. I always thought I would do something in art and computers. But what if that doesn't work out for me? And how will i pay for college? My dad is just getting worse. And my mom is saying shes going to get a divorce if he continues drinking. And she already talked to me today about switching to a public school if there is money problems. I've been trying to get a job...but nothing seems to be working out for me. And my grades aren't so hot. Even if i did try my best this year it won't make much of a difference. Has anyone gone through this problem when you were my age? any advice? or if anyone lives in chicago and knows where i can get a job..that would help too.

First of all, you might want to start off at a local community college untill you know where you want to go. Secondly, talk to your school counclier. She or he can help you out. If you want to go to college, money should not be an issue. There are so many grants out there that most people go to school almost free. Right now i'm getting paid about $700 to go to college from the government (http://www.fasfa.gov) my fiance is getting paid around $3000 to go to school (Fasfa and a PAL grant) this is money left over that these orgnizations have given us. its really nice.
Also try just filling out random apps around your area. I know personaly Target hires new people monthly. so thats a good store to fill out an app at.
Ask a teacher at school about college stuff, they can point you where you need to go.

I agree w/ cindy...
If you are passionate about computer and arts i would go to a community college...they are usually 2 years and are a bit less cost then regular college...
You live in chigaco...a big city - there has to be jobs, hun...
Just look in the classifieds or go door to door at like grocery stores or clothing stores and ask to fill out an application

i live in chicago too, who's hiring? maybe i'll find something new.... about ur senior year, just enjoy it to the fullest, cause college will be hard work, and u'll have to grow up fast ( i'm a junior now), talk to ur counclers, idk mine helped me a lot just out of random conversations i realized what i wanted to do in life, u'll also have to fill out FAFSA ,and get some other scholarships, there's always some chance u'll get something from 'em
Now you'll find with everything you lose
Your path clears with everything you choose
Is there someway I can show you
The best is yet to come

Interesting..I never knew jewel gave away schlorships to workers. Thing are going a bit better. I applied to be an usher at soldier Field. And My friend has a friend who is a manager at a target near my house..So He'll probably help me out.
I have heard of Fasfa before. And i Will fill that out. Chicago is a big city and there are lot of jobs. BUt for most..you have to 18 and over. they don't give 17 years olds much of a choice in a job.
Thanks for all your advice. I'll keep it in mind all this year.
3 more days to my birthday! WOo!
