i just got a hermit crab. it rules. hes mising a couple of legs and a pincher cuz they got pinched of by another crab. n e ways how do u know if they die? just so i know incase he dies. and how do u know if he needs a new shell?

put extra shells in there, varying in bigger sizes then his current shell, and he should go into one when he's ready. when they die i think they smell and fall out of their shells. i had one as big as my fist once. i forgot his name though.

when they die they usually come out of their shell. If he's been in his shell for a while and you think he might be dead, hold it upside down and sprinkle a little water on him...that should make him come out if he's still alive. And as it was said before, just keep some other shells in there a little bigger and he'll change when he's ready...good luck!
