Change Of Major?

Post by Doug »

So, I'm a journalism major right now and a political science minor (freshman). But, I'm thinking about switching my major and minor because I am strangely addicted to politics. When I watch tv, it's either sports (I'm a guy, give me a break) or I'm watching politics. I love the politics class that I'm in and any column that I seem to write is about politics. But, I'm worried about switching it because...

1) I love writing investigative journalism pieces.

2) I don't know what kinds of careers (aside from politician) a political science major will get me. I still need to make the money to live.

If anyone can help me, that'd be great.

Doug,

I would not change my major YET if I was you. You could do a DOUBLE MAJOR but that is so time consuming; it's able to be considered though. I think that you should go to where your interests fall, but remember that journalism and politics can often go hand-in-hand.

Yeah, I know that, and what worries me about changing it is that I get this adrenaline rush when I'm doing journalism, when I'm investigating for a story and such.

I guess the real question I want answered is what kind of jobs I can get as a political science major.

My dad was a political science major and is now an attorney (for environmental law). So I mean, you could go down a law pathway I suppose. I don't know too much about political sciences but I found this site that may be useful:

Because my professors wouldn't want to (or know how to) help me and I've never met my advisor.

Maybe it's time you did meet your advisor. I switched into a history/poli sci major, and it's fun, it really is. I'm going law though hopefully.
