10 Words...help!

Post by SirPostAlot »

For english we need to write an essay about a foreign person who doesn't speak english is comeing to visit us in our home for two weeks...What are the first 10 words we teach them and why...

I have thought about this for like two hours and i have come up with some like:

freedom, pride, protest, agriculture...

but i decided that though these words describe america, they aren't really needed because how would you show freedom or whatever and those aren't really the words you teach someone...

So im not using those, and so far i have:

family, dollar, home, and school

so please help...

Thanks :)

How about bathroom, bed, water, and food?
Hello Adulthood!

The courage to serve them with reliance

Face my mistakes without defiance

Show them I'm worthy

And while I show them

I'll show me

So, let them bring on all their problems

I'll do better than my best

I have confidence they'll put me to the test

But I'll make them see I have confidence in me

-I Have Confidence

Well i wasn't really thinking that route, but htat would work...

The other part of the prompt is why would you teach them and how is it important to survive in our society...

And its honors english so he wants more thought out but those could work...

Thanks :) Any other suggestions?

I know these are little words but you can give a good explanation of why they should learn these words first.

Please Thank you: It's always good to learn manners

Hello: So they can meet others and make friends

No: to show them they have the power to say no to anything they don't want to do.

Yes: so they can do the things they want to do

Why: so they can question the things they don't understand

I love you: so they can let a loved one know how they feel about them

free: so they know what they are.

Hope these helped

haha bathroom for sure, because it's totally necessary.

Where, why, how. So they can ask and find out more about anything they need to.

Hello, so they can meet people, as said above.

thats...5?

Home, because they'll need to know how to get there.

Please, so they can ask for things.

Help, in case they needed it.

Love, so they can express it

and yes/no (even though that's technically two words...) just so they can survive. :P
One minute there was road beneath us

The next just sky

Reach up

And let's propose a toast

Please and Thank You would be good...

And i was thinking about "Food" and "Drink"

Like they can just say "Food" when they are hungary and "Drink" when they are thirsty...

Hello ~ yeah thats a good one...hmm...

so theres:

Food

Drink

Money

Hello

Please

Thanks (Thank You - depending if he counts that as two words or not)

Family

Home

and you wouldn't need to teach them "Yes" or "no" becuase they could just shake their head or nod...

So thats 8...

Hmm...i'll think of some, but if you have any more suggestions please tell me :)

Well, perhaps this isn't so important for someone foreign coming over here... but it could be. My mom is going to Poland and the first word she wanted to learn was coffee. So I'd vote teaching either "coffee" or "starbucks" :P . "goodbye" is a good one to counter the "hello."

Well i turned my paper in today...

I think it read well, but my teacher doesn't like my style of writting...

I have a very big problem about jumping tenses...like:

"She enjoys swimming while she is at the beach. She was a person who enjoyed swimming all her life."

Thats a poor example but i switch tenses...

Though i have been getting better..
