Prep Courses
I'm a Junior and will be taking the SAT this May. I'm not sure whether to take this prep course that the school is offering in groups (with a nice discount). My family can afford the course, but I don't what them to spend the money without knowing what I'm getting myself into (its $500). I think I just wanna study on my own, which my mom's suggested (I've done it before on a state test and did quite well) but I'm not sure Any advice would be quite helpful.

Re: Prep Courses
the truth is those courses do work, they help you learn to make smart guesses and how to potentially score higher using some techniques, of course though $500 is a bit much for a course that's just going to show you how to do educational guesses and to leave the answer blank. If I were you I'd just go out and dish out say $50 on a study book, they are extremely helpful and do work just as well as those courses, just two key things to remember are educational guesses and DO NOT answer the question if you have no idea at all what the answer is. Good luck and I hope you do well

Are you a good test taker? If so, then I wouldn't bother with the courses or the books. I managed a 1300 (the old school scores of course) with about 3 hours of sleep (which is a long story, it wasn't intentional though). At the end of the day you either know the material or you don't. If you are good at standardized tests then I think neither will be much of a help for you. But, if you don't perform well on tests like that, then I would recommend the course.
