Technically, you really -dont- have to buy any security programs at all for your PC, there are 3 free Antiviruses I know of that offer reisdent protection, and on-demand scanner, one is AVG AntivirusAntiVirPE And Avast IMO, having some virus protection is better then none, as for firewalls, there is: Sygate Personal Firewall And Zone Alarm - No real reason NOT to have ATLEAST a AntiVirus+Firewall.
Yes those are good, but buying Norton is the best protection from virus's.
I have a quick fix for everyone. It's an online virus scanner by Panda Anti virus. It will scan your computer for virus's and anything else harmful and remove it from your system. I already recommended it to Steve and he thanked me a lot. So, here's your chance to check your system for computer virus's. This will take some time depending on the speed of your computer, but it will work flawlessly, even if you have a slow computer.
Click here and accept all security warnings. They're a trustworthy company and won't install anything that will spy on you or stuff. This will, as I said above, scan and eliminate any known virus on your system. Including the latest one to hit the world "MSBlaster worm."
After you have run the virus scan and eliminated the virus, if there was any. Update windows through "Windows Update," which is found at the top of your start menu. If you deleted it by accident, open Internet Explorer, go to the tools menu and click "Windows Update." You should install anything that says "Critical" or "security" anywhere on it.
Thank you so much. How do I put this on my tool bar, I guess, so I can come back to it?
It's the little things that make a big difference.
Click on "Online virus check" or on the Panda ActiveScan icon. A new browser window will open with Panda ActiveScan. If this is the first time you scan your PC, you'll have to download the ActiveX controls (1.5 MB) which can take about 5 minutes with a 56 KB modem
Where can I get the Panda ActiveScan icon?

I'm not sure what you're asking. What browser do you use. Are you asking how you can get a browser button. if so, yah there is a little install thing on their site that will put a "Panda Activescan" button on the top toolbar of Internet Explorer.
Yes that's exactly it (the browswer button). Umm...I guess I want it on this Internet Explorer. Sorry no one can never understand me.. I guess I never make myself clear.

some looser installed a back door and a worm on my computer that was crappy enough for norton to pick up
Norton isn't crappy and it's heuristics engine is the best in the anti-virus business. Norton picks up more known viruses and more unknown viruses than any other virus scanner out. This is not personal opinion, this is FACT. Printed and re-printed fact through numerous reviews of the product and other products alike.
In my experience the most common virii are back door ones. They do not actually have to be installed by an individual, but come out in mass mailings and attached to files off p2p file sharing networks. So it does not mean the person was a loser that they would actually go through and install it on your machine(they probably do not know you exist), that is unless you consider anyone who would do this a loser.

i know it is, but a hackers program installeed on my computer was pickeed up by an antivirus program. now how good do you think that hacker is?

hm lets see... its not hard AT ALL, to elude detection all you have to do is edit a single string in the file and norton won't pick it up , so therefore its easy, and a "hacker" doesn't use those trojans to go into a computer, their lamers, not hackers at all, script kiddies, a 12 year old can do that kinda shit..
I HAVE this panda thing and its great. It does well with keeping viruses out. Its good. I've had it for about a week{got it with my new pc} and its came up with about 10 viruses trying to get in, but panda has stopped it.. I recommend it too!
