Adserve?
Okay... so now I have a problem with something called adserve... I believe this deals with something that's already on my computer, because all the popups that would normally be blocked are, except for these few. For awhile, it appeared that stuff was being downloaded without me (or anyone else that I know of) having done anything to download them (like porno crap for instance). Adserve appears to be part of the popup thing... and then there's also something that has the title GEX__#### (#=random numbers). I think this might be apart of Adserve, but I don't know. It's just freaking bizarre, and trying to get rid of programs on the computer that don't look like should be there, sometimes they aren't going away, but I don't know... I'm quite confused.
I also have another question. Does anyone know about having to submit a "survey" in order to uninstall. Is this something I shoudl just go through with, or something totally crap? (I think I have to though as it didn't appear to give me a choice)

Get Adaware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
if the uninstall requires a servey, do it quickly, use the letters a, or x to fill out all fields, and use a@a.a to fill out the email address if it asks you... post the url here before you do it.... if there is one.... there's usually an uninstall program hidden on their website of the application..... hidden so you have to search terribly to get it... if you post the site, i'll find it for you

Re: Adserve?
I'm not quite sure I understand Adaware fully. Like it seems like it's just a scanning program, and doesn't really run to check against anything while I'm on the internet... is this right?3
Okay... so there's more. I just did the thing with Adaware... and I've seen something called Ezula and then Hotbar and istbar... these things are getting on my freakin' nerves!
Well, I had gone to the http://www.adserve.com site, and it appears that they something about someone stealing their name. The site that it looks like is used is http://www.adsrve.com, but it doesn't link you to anything. It does a "search" through the site (is whate it appears) and then you get stupid ads. Grr...
**OD... do you remember my post in staff concerning having links with like "key words" to the ntsearch thing? Well, it appears that this is what the http://www.adsrve.com thing is. But it looks so much mroe compilcated because it redirects everything. I'm very confused...

Re: Adserve?
adawre scans your computers harddrive for software which aspys on you, you also sound like you have a nasty trojen or worm if you arnt getting any viruses show up on your hard drive hen you should format it and start over.
To get rid of the spyware(thats what adaware searches for)simply click to clean them all up.another program you should try is spybot which is the same sort of program and very effective
hope this helps

AdServe
The site above has a notice of http://www.adsrve.com using their name illegally... so does it seem like I just sit and wait.
Oh, and is there a good site to get Spybot... the search and destroy thing? I apparently have bad searching skills. Thanks for the help... I hate this computer crap!

What u really need is a firewall. According to PCGAMER Magizine, the best free fire wall is zonealarm. If u have question on the firewall im me at plaugeofbabies on AOL. What a fire wall does is prevent outside sources from getting in, d/l on, or control your comp.

Some people like you Onigami, seem to think that firewalls are 'the problem solvers' for any issue. Firewalls are not problem solvers for everything, and USUALLY firewalls are not the problem solvers... another type of solution is needed.Originally posted by Onigami@Mar 2 2004, 06:24 PM

I'm not sure about this situation on what it's solution is, but i do know that a firewall will not help this situation in the slightest.

First off, i don't think fire walls r the almighty problem solvers
But firewalls can prevent adware from being installed in the first place, and can block pop up windows.
Further more, raw fire walls r not all that great, but with propper modifcation, they can be pretty useful.
I would much rather have a firewall than nothing at all hto help protect my system from unwantd visitors.
