I was just in London Drugs buying a new vacuum and I was watching a television that was on CNN.
A female broadcaster was in the midst of interviewing a gentleman about the recent bombings in Spain and doing her very best to connect the attacks with al-Qaeda. When the gentleman that she was interviewing claimed that the ?Arab Language Tapes? conveniently discovered in a van could have been placed by anyone, she then tried to link the ETA with al-Qaeda.
From the BBC- ?one of seven (audio tapes) discovered in the van - contained verses of the Koran, in Arabic, relating to education. "Because of this, I have just given instructions to the security forces not to rule out any line of investigation," he said (Interior Minister Angel Acebes)
Spain supported the invasion of Iraq, true. Spain also has a very long and violent history with the Basque separatists (that goes both ways ? see the 1937 bombing of Guernica by Nazi planes aiding the Spanish fascist regime). It may sound nuts but go back a few entries and have a read about Guatemala. It may be nothing and it may be something. The point is that you can?t discount any possibility when it comes to how propaganda is used to alter public opinion about things such as the war on terror. The ETA represents a reason for the Spanish public to become more vigilant and more in tune with other national interests concerning international terrorism. It doesn?t matter that the Basques have been demanding independence for years, and long before the 911 attacks, but that the people of Spain can draw parallels between themselves and others that have suffered at the hands of terrorism. It may even go so far as to begin to sway Spanish public opinion about anti-terror operations elsewhere in the world.
Let's also not forget that many are of the opinion that the Spanish Socialist Party is going to win the next election.
What should concern everyone are two primary possibilities:
1) That terrorism is being painted with an ever-widening brush to include those that pose economic threats. There are many regimes throughout the world that have escaped the rogue state paintbrush and one has to ask ? why? How exactly is despotism divided between ?okay? and ?not okay??
2) Who benefits from attacks such as this?
He brings up some troubling questions. But some of his suspiciouns don't seem that far-fetched. I wouldn't put it past some governments to sponsor such an action, especially if it was in their best interest.
Democracy. It rolls off the tongue nicely. Better than others. I can say it, spell it, define it, but can?t admit to ever believing it. So convoluted has it become that it has mesmerized generations into a comma of perfect sublimity. You dance to the music of your youth, identify with your own memory, become a time capsule of numb comfort. And there, mired in the exhaustion of a life in progress, you surrender your right to question for the luxury of not being bothered.
it wont be before long something like that happens in england. it was sad though, so many ppl getting killed-i was watching the news and it showed one bit where a leg was picked up. Just a leg. i doubt its a goverment thing really, to tell u the truth.

"It's amazing i won. I was running against peace, prosperity, and incumbency." -George W. Bush (speaking to Swedish PM unaware a Live TV camera was still rolling.)
Why do i need a Psycho with a Chainsaw when I have Myself?
I would not think it was sponsered by the government, however I would not put it past any government to point the blame at someone other than who it actually was to turn public opinion in the direction they wish.
