Split from Maintaining your computer

Post by The Black Hat »

I'd like to note:

Online Virus and Spyware Checks are not the most accurate. To fully protect yourself, you should have installed software on your local hard-drive.

Actually that's not correct.

it's the opposite. Client side protection can be 'fed' falcified information where as just recently downloaded online java or whatever modules cannot.

I can't think of a better use of server resources... I really can't.

However take for example the Panda Online Scanner and the Panda System Software.

I used the Panda Scanner and detected no viruses. I then downloaded the Panda Software Bundle and scanned my system, detecting 22 viruses. So as you can see, the Online Scanner does not scan every file.

That may be true with panda, but that's not the case with any others. (btw these posts will be split from the topic at a later date)

I think u forgot the fact that u should only have a couple (depending on ur RAM) programs installed at a time. Having to many u do not use will hog up system reasources and cause your computer to run at slow speeds.

Also, when ur comp seams to be acting strange, run CHKDSK or CHKDSK /F that will prevent crosslinking in file types.

Uh... having programs installed will not drain your system resources, it is having them all running at once that will. And you should be able to run what you need without issues or you have a pretty damned crappy computer.

What I meant (sry for not being clear enough) was not to have many prgrams either running at start up, or in ur taskbar that u don't need. sry!
