I Hope This Makes You Mad
Hi Everyone!!
The following links will take you to news reports and message boards regarding a VERY upsetting decision by the Swedish courts. In fact - I'll go beyond saying it's upsetting and call it what it is... absolute insanity. It is an example of just how far the politically correct among us will go to maintain what THEY BELIEVE is 'right' and 'fair'. It is - without a doubt - terrifying. And don't kid yourself - it DOES effect YOU. Freedom of expression is not something that we can take for granted. There are [as this news report clearly illustrates] people in this world who WILL [given the chance] do whatever it takes to KEEP YOU QUIET.
Here is a quote from one of these links...
"A Swedish court has sentenced a pastor belonging to the Pentecostal movement in Sweden, Ake Green, to a month in prison, under a law against incitement, after he was found guilty of having offended homosexuals in a sermon. Soren Andersson, the president of the Swedish federation for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights (RFSL), said on hearing the sentence that religious freedom could never be used as a reason to offend people. "Therefore," he told journalists, "I cannot regard the sentence as an act of interference with freedom of religion."
All I can say is... 'shame on the president of the RFSL'.
What do YOU think?!

Yeah, what a jerk. Just because you're offedning someone that doesn't mean you deserve jailtime. It's called freedom of speech. And, just so everyone knows, most people that are for GLBT rights would not agree with this either.

Re: I Hope This Makes You Mad
just cuz the guy is a jerk and offends people doesnt mean they should lock him up. If youre gonna use the law that way basically anything said could be interpretted as offensive. Those laws suck!

Re: I Hope This Makes You Mad
This was not in the US, the swedes are not bound by our bill of rights and I do not believe have one of their own. This does trouble me though, what's next, political rivals being imprisoned for saying that their opponent is not good for the country? More pastors being arrested for offending adulterers, liers?

thats kinda funny, i could honestly see that happening in the US someday. being politically correct is being more of a big deal in the united states everyday. it honestly really annoys me.

Re: I Hope This Makes You Mad
i think this guy from the RFSL is crazy! i mean, he's being way too sensitive. shouldn't it be somewhat i dunno how to put this better, but i don't mean it in a derrogatory way to christians at all, shouldn't it be somewhat expected from someone whos belief is opposed to something to be offensive towards it at least somewhat?

That is frightening... because I actually believe that will be happening here eventually. I don't know when, but you can see the negativity towards beliefs like this rising a little now. I really believe that this sort of issue is going to infringe on freedom of speech/belief years and years from now.

So you think that people shouldn't supress people's rights, and yet you cheer for it all the same.

Re: I Hope This Makes You Mad
ohhhhh Im mad now. I live in South Carolina, the Upstate at that (yeah, real close to where the big flood happened a couple of weeks ago, nasty weather) and I found out that some county people opened meetings with a prayer, In Christs name. Well some of you may be thinking thats great, others dont like that. well anyway a judge later ruled that they shouldnt do it. Well, this writer later says we need to repect other beliefes, well, yeah but this guy was an atheist Im sure of it. This guy does not like Christ or His teachings, or anyone who belives in him and says that the goverment should not hold a biased view to one certain set of belives. hmmmmm, let me see here, so its alright to teach atheism (a belief) and fail students if they belive in creationism, but its not alright if ONE SINGLE member of a government body belives in a religion. Im sorry guys, but this is stupid. We should not be fined, jailed, failed for something we belive in, it doesnt matter who you are. You have the freedom to practice a religion the way you see fit, but let me tell you this, what religion is suffering???? what religion is spat on, cursed, and what have? what religion does a teacher answer a question about from a student and get fired? only one, Christianity. We all claim to be tolerant people, but are we really? Would toleront people fire, fine, fail, imprison, torture or kill someone just because what they belive in? no. It saddens me, my brothers and sisters in Christ are being tortured and killed over in china and the middle east because of what they belive in, and no one is saying anything or protesting anything. However we must not allow our president to get rid of a tyrant and evil dictator. It is becoming to point where a pastor CAN NOT PREACH in his OWN church. Are we really going to allow this? do you really want it to the point where you are no longer able to belive in ANYTHING at all? Christians in china have to hide, they cant just go to a church cause their arnt any. If one was to make one, it would be destroyed, and the people who built it, would killed.

Re: I Hope This Makes You Mad
Who is imposing fines, failing people, or imprisoning them in this country for being christian? Saying that you should not say a prayer at the beggining of a government meeting is just following the constitution, nothing more.

Re: I Hope This Makes You Mad
No, this seperation of church and state was SUPPOSED to be one, Ill have to ask my dad on wich way it went. There have been kids in school who have been failed on a certain class JUST because they believe in creationism, ask any Christian, they will tell you the same thing, and prolly quite a few have been failed themselves for that reason. And I never said in this country. Do you think its gonna stop in sweden, france, canada and china? no, its gonna go right on to us, in the US. even more so if Kerry gets in cause he wants to show a unified America, so he wont hesitate to do certian things if these countrys suggest it. We could soon see our rights of speech gone completly within a few years unless we start standing up for ourselves as a people and put end this nonsense. No one should get fired and lose their job for something he belives in. No one desearves to be tortured and killed because of what the belive in.

Re: I Hope This Makes You Mad
Agreed, and that is not happening in the US yet. If we allow the republicans to continue though it will. People are already being incarcerated for what they read, it will spread to religions, namely islam though, not christianity in the US.
