Anyone That Has Lived Outside The Us

Post by alnieve »

Hey guys!

In my history class I have to interview people that have lived outside the US, currently or in the past. So, I know a bunch of you are from Canada, and a few of you from the UK. If you could answer some questions for me, that'd be great! Sorry if some of the questions are a bit stupid, they're just the ones we have to ask.

Some of them kinda don't apply, because I don't think it's all that much there than it is in the US. But these are the questions we have to ask. Oh well, just make sense out of what you can.

SURVEY

1. Which country have you lived in? For how long?

2. Do/Did you live with the local people?

3. What local customs do stand out the most?

4. In what ways are they different from us here in the US?

5. How are they similar to us?

6. What is your attitude towards Americans in general?

7. What kind of houses do you live in?

8. What kind of food do you eat? What kind of clothing do you wear?

9. What is the dominant religion?

10. What is your (as a country) favorite sport?

Thanks guys! Sorry this thing is so stupid.

1. Which country have you lived in? For how long?

Canada. I've lived here since I've been born, so 19 years.

2. Do/Did you live with the local people?

But of course.

3. What local customs do stand out the most?

Religious fanaticism of the sport of hockey where I am from. Also , a sense of social justice, and a love of beer.

4. In what ways are they different from us here in the US?

We care about hockey and beer more, and seem to appreciate social well being.

5. How are they similar to us?

Both predominantly white, but with major immigration from other countries. We both seem to enjoy our freedom as well.

6. What is your attitude towards Americans in general?

I have nothing against them. Well, most of them. If they are as closed-minded as the stereotype, i border on anipathy.

7. What kind of houses do you live in?

Two story in the summer. Dormitory in the school year.

8. What kind of food do you eat? What kind of clothing do you wear?

Much the same as in America. Similar food, perhaps more ethnic. Clothing is the same as food.

9. What is the dominant religion?

I believe that it is still Roman Catholicism.

10. What is your (as a country) favorite sport?

National sport is lacrosse, but hands down, hockey is the favourite sport.

Yeah no kidding. I was like WTF!? when I read the questions. It's like he wants us to find people that lived in wigwams or something like that. But I had to do the assignment and I don't really know anybody that has lived outside of Utah alone, much less the US.

Thanks for replying guys.

1. Which country have you lived in? For how long?

UK - all my life

2. Do/Did you live with the local people?

Yep, although technically where I live at the mo is quite multicultural compared to other parts of the UK I've lived in (there's about a 50 year time gap between diff parts of England!)

3. What local customs do stand out the most?

Fish and chips!!! and rugby... Watching "neighbours" (cheesy yet heart warming australian soap opera) at lunchtime

4. In what ways are they different from us here in the US?

You speak a bizarre form of English with lots of interesting words for vegetables, eg zucchini and eggplant (shopping in american supermarkets was a whole new experience for me!)

5. How are they similar to us?

We have a lot of your imported shows: Friends, The Simpsons etc

6. What is your attitude towards Americans in general?

I like american people generally, they're easy to talk to... much more so than many british... but some have some pretty wacky ideas about the world

7. What kind of houses do you live in?

A brick one

8. What kind of food do you eat? What kind of clothing do you wear?

Roast dinners, Thai, Chinese, fish and chips, kebabs (like Archers_Angel mentionned) we're really big on those. As for clothing, jeans whatever's comfy really!

9. What is the dominant religion?

Officially Church of England, seeing as we're still partly a monarchy but the UK as a whole is mostly secular. Religion and politics don't mix anything like they do in America, the rule seems to be believe what you want as long as you respect the beliefs of others, religion is a very personal thing here, no one really talks about it.

10. What is your (as a country) favorite sport?

Rugby/Cricket/Football
<span style=\'font-family:TAHOMA\'"It's snowing still," said Eeyore gloomily.

"So it is."

"And freezing."

"Is it?"

"Yes," said Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately."
