Re: Ipods
Well I think they are GREAT.
iPods stores THOUSANDS of songs which is the equivalent to a LOT of CD's you don't have to carry around or switch. You don't worry about skipping and the battery lasts longer on the newer models.

Re: Ipods
They're expensive, but as this topic has covered you can put any kind of music on it.
Whether you illegally get it off the internet or buy it.

Re: Ipods
That depends on the model you get. They have low-cost models too called the iPod Mini. Here is the side-by-side of all the iPod's and their storage capacities, weight, features, etc...: http://www.apple.com/ipod/specs.html If you decide to buy one, you can buy it at their online store at local venues such as CompUSA, Circuit City and BestBuy, etc.. The most popular one I believe is the 20gig model which turns out to be around $340 USD including state and federal taxes.Originally posted by Beautiful@Nov 26 2004, 08:51 PM

Re: Ipods
Yeah I wouldn't call the Mini low cost. Let me show you how the iPod line works.
We have iPod Mini which holds 4 gigs - 249
iPod which holds 20 gigs - 299
iPod which holds 40 gigs - 399
iPod U2 Edition/20 gigs - 349
iPod Photo - 40 gigs - 499
iPod Photo - 60 gigs - 599
The iPod line has been continually expanding. They offer education discounts of 30 bucks on the regular iPods, and 20 on the mini, but I'm not sure about the photo.
The only difference between the iPod and the iPod Mini is the size of the unit, the color of the unit, and the amount of space the unit holds.
The iPod photo does not TAKE pictures, it STORES them and displays in full color.
The iPod U2 is a regular iPod in black and red with the U2 autographs laser engraved in the back.

Re: Ipods
Emily, I'm sorry. I thought you meant that it was silly that people would pay more money for the same product in a different color. The same product in a different color is the iPod 20 GB, and I was comparing it to that.
349 - 299 = 50
See where I got that? My bad - misunderstood you.

Re: Ipods
I don't believe that. In fact, I know it isn't possible. Napster uses Microsoft WMA Digital Rights Management (DRM) for all of their songs that you download. The iPod simply will not play WMA songs. Apple has stated they have no intentions of ever supporting the WMA format because the AAC format has Apple?s own Digital Rights Management system and they believe in their own products superiority. Just like Microsoft believes in their products superiority and therefore does not support AAC files.Originally posted by supergurl2025@Nov 30 2004, 07:42 PM

Anyway, if you have songs from Napster, they must be from before 2001 when Napster (the P2P network) was shutdown by the RIAA and its lawsuits. If you are one of the people who download them and purposefully try and beat the DRM technology to make unrestricted MP3 files, that was made highly illegal by the Digital Millennium Copyright act. I see many parts of that law very, very unfair for the consumer and I don?t agree with the law, but it is the law. The RIAA got what they wanted by throwing money at Washington Lobbyists.

Re: Ipods
Apple is probably going to be releasing a flash based iPod which can hold less songs, but is also smaller and cheaper in January. They are expected to hold between 250 and a thousand songs and start around 99$.
The iPod may seem overpriced, but if you listen to music a lot it is a godsend. I have a 4G(clickwheel) iPod, and it is the best money I've ever spent purley because the iPod's interface is so simple to use yet powerful durible and lightweight.
