Remove Ie?

Post by InnocenceLost57 »

OK I was wonderingif it was possible to remove internet explorer from your ocmputer and how it owuld affect things.....we have Firefox because IE is evil but we keep getting popups and things through IE and i just want to get rid of it altogether. I've run spybot adaware AND norton antivirus a million times and they wont go away. Would this be a safe move?

You cannot remove IE from your system. The Windows operating system will not remove the full program. However, you can remove the executable - more of a rough way around it.... C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

You cannot uninstall IE completely, you can just delete the Executable, however this will not remove IE at all... it will just prevent iexplore.exe, the program that creates the 'windows' of IE, however IE is more than just a window. It's part of the system and WINDOWS explorer even uses IE.

Best option:

In Firefox, Tools Options General Default Browser Click Check now and make it your Default (Also put a checkmark in the box).

Then

Start Control Panels Internet Options Programs Tab remove the checkmark on the bottom of the screen that asks to check if IE is the default browser. Close Internet Options and your done.

It's part of the Microsoft Windows Operating System. That is just like asking to remove the windows registry. It's a vital part of Microsoft Windows.

FF is already my default browser, and the check box was already gone. Is there any way to like lock the program so it can't open windows anymore, and would that prevent the program from installing more spyware and the like every time a new ad window pops up? Would that be the executable thing?

The problem with IE is that you do in fact, need it. Your OS runs off IE. Not to mention, you cant use Windows Update without Internet Explorer. Set FF as your default browser and bury IE, but dont uninstall it.

Internet Explorer is not jsut the internet. IE is what you use everytime you open anything like My Computer, My Documents, your Recycling Bin, ect.

Type in your address toolbar (the bar at the top of the screen where http://www.helpingteens.org/group/ whatever elce there is there, is) C: when using IE and see what comes up, its your C drive (one of your hard drives).

There is no way to fully remove IE from your computer. One of the major fualts of Windows.

I dont think Ie is your problem. Ive been using Ie for a couple years now. never got a pop-up from it and spybot dont work, its really a waste of time. but lavasoft's Ad-aware Se is the best spyware/tracking cookie remover out there

but somethings gotten into ad-aware though....whenever i run it, it scans like 12k files and comes up with around 180 objects, and then i iht cancel and it stops it where it is, and i try n delete em, but it goes through the quarantine and then says 'deleting files' and it just site tehre for hours on end...its not frozen, but it jsut won't delete them. It's the same whether its 2 or 200 files, and whether i stop it halfway or go all the way through...i was just trying to remove IE so maybe I could stop the popups. i got a buncha new stuff on there, like Hijack this and TDS-3 and something like spyware guard and CWS shredder, etc....n its still screwed. _< Stupid hp pavillion.
