Re: Congratulations To Canadians
Well, i wrote a giant thing, but it didnt take, so here's the gist of it.
It's not legalized. The Supreme Court simply ruled that it would be not illegal to make a law allowing it. It still has to go through Commons. Most Liberals and Cabinet (134 seats) will vote for the bill, as will most of the NDP (19 seats) and Bloc (54 seats). Most Conservatives (99 seats) will probably vote against the bill. The two independents will probably not matter in this case. 155 votes yes votes are needed to pass the law to get a majority of the 308 seats.
It will take a few months to pass probably because of the lack of a majority government.

I think you are wrong Tora. The news clearly said "Canada Supreme Court legalizes gay marriage"

Nope, it's just unconstitutional to make it legal, because it is against the freedom of religion, but its still a major victory... or is my interpretation incorrect?

Nope, Tora is correct. The parliament of Canada (or whatever it is) asked the Supreme Court for its opinion before their vote. This was their opinion. It still has to pass in the parliament.

Re: Congratulations To Canadians
Just remember, the Canadian is more likely to follow Canadian politics and events, and is therefore probably correct when it comes to Canadian matters.
Here's some links to the good old CBC.
HERE
The Supreme Court simply ruled that it is not illegal to pass a law allowing gay marriage, that the marriages already conducted are allowed to stand, and that this matter pertains to OTTAWA alone, meaning that provinces cannot use the notwithstanding clause to opt out of this issue.
In one of the only issues that i disagree with my government on, Alberta will be fighting this. Personally, I believe that a right that one canadian has should be extended to all Canadians, so i disagree with them on this point.
There will be a law sometime in february i think.
