Ok I realize this fits into about 3 forums, but I really wanted it to go here. Move it if you feel it's really necessary.

But, as a bisexual male I find myself fairly often checking out the Advocate, which is the National Gay and Lesbian News Magazine. I think it's a pretty great magazine keeping people aware of different things that are going on in the gay world, including updates on topics such as gay marriage, discrimination policies, ect. It also provides less serious more fluffy things like movie and music reviews (all gay all the time of course). But you know, as gay as it is, I like to read it to keep up to date with different things going on with gay people around the world. I also frequently peruse the online version, which is Advocate.com.

So, I got home today, and figured since I haven't really checked up on it lately I should see what's new. That's when I found this. I realize that a gay magazine would not be that Pope friendly, but personally I am totally disgusted that they took such a one sided and in my opinion tacky view of his life. I dunno, I always held The Advocate in pretty high esteem, I thought they did a pretty good job of reporting things accurately if a bit one sided, but come on, I don't get how they can bitch and moan about how he propogated teachings that the Catholic church has held since its inception, while doing the next best thing to ignoring the fact that the man OVERTHREW COMMUNISM. So he may be antigays, but in my book the man ending the Cold War puts him in the category of the good guys. And yet, I see him being attacked when he hasn't yet been dead 2 days.

I guess this really has no point, other than that I am disappointed that a magazine that I held in high esteem could be so tacky. Sure you may have disagreed with the guy, but out of respect for him at least let him be buried before you start to attack him. I just thought that entire article was very inappropriate for such a short time after his death.

I'm thinking that this post belongs more in Current Events than Sexuality because this is predominantly about the pope - it just happens to be written by a magazine for homosexuals.

I don't see anything wrong with it.

It may be biased, but everything in this world is biased. He didn't support gay marriage. His anti-gay beliefs fueled a lot of the anti-gay feels that I encounter every day.

The pope, as good of a guy as he may have been, really helped fuck over my life and my marital future. I don't mourn his death. If he were truly accepting and of god, then he would accept homosexuality.

Or rather, that's what I believe.

Cheers,

Jenna

I found the "ultra-conservative" part odd... I was under the impression that he was rather liberal and relaxed many church rules making catholicism something that the average person could follow easy enough. I agree that they were blaming the pope for the policies and beliefs of christians in general, things that mostly come from the bible and have been around for centuries, obviously something that 1 pope could not just change.

Oh yes four, he was much more liberal than a lot of popes before him. I have to say that I also enjoy the conspiracy theory that they gave about how John Paul got elected.

Yeah, the whole conspiracy theory was just creepy. Some people have too much time on their hands.

Yeah, i like how they imply that he might have had a hand in killing the ther two popes. This is just weird.
