Pop3 Email

Post by Doug » Thu May 05, 2005 1:59 am

So, I'm using some software on my computer. In order to do some neccessary things on this software, I apparently have to set up a POP3 email account. What is it? What does it do? How do I set one up? Seriously, my brain is fried right now. I looked at a page that was supposed to explain it, but I didn't understand a word. Any help would be appreciated.

First we need to know what email service. Is this yahoo or hotmail?

They charge you money for POP3 access.

Is there any service that doesn't charge for it? I have Yahoo, hotmail, gmail, and charter.

Will you be using Microsoft Outlook XP/2003 or Outlook Express? What email program.

Gmail

Google GMail gives it to you for free (for the moment).

Charter Communications

Charter Cable is your ISP. They give you POP3 for sure but only for your @charter.net email. Or whatever domain name they use for member email addresses. Click here for the POP3/SMTP address needed.
