Do You Drive?! Consider The Following....

Post by CanadaCraig »

Hi Everyone!! <img src='http://www.helpingteens.org/groups/publ ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I hope you're having a dandy day.

Do you drive? Are you thinking of getting your license someday?

IF you are driving your car [OR are IN a car] at 60 miles per hour - you are moving forward at the rate of ONE MILE every minute. A mile is 5,280 feet. So for every ONE SECOND you are moving forward - at 60 MPH - you have traveled 88 feet. THINK ABOUT IT!! At 30 MPH you have gone 44 feet. IN ONE SECOND!! So don't assume that you can take your eye off the road.

An awful lot can happen in just one second. Cell phones are bad enough. But at least while talking on a cell phone - you CAN keep your eyes [IF NOT all of your attention] on the road. But text messaging while driving is considerably more dangerous. Not only are you thinking about something else - you are LOOKING at something else!!

The British police have created a graphic video [Consider that your warning!] to show the risks one takes while texting AND driving. But ANYTHING that distracts a driver and keeps him or her from watching the road - puts them AND everyone IN their car AND everyone driving around them - at risk. Click the link below to watch the video.

GREAT BIG HUG

Craig!! <img src='http://www.helpingteens.org/groups/publ ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

PS For all of my metric-minded brothers and sisters - IF you are traveling at a speed of 100 Km/h - you are covering a distance of 27.78 metres every ONE SECOND!!!!

Wow. That video was hard to swallow. It really proves to point the obvious, texting while driving is dangerous. Thanks for that, Craig. I won't be texting anymore while I'm driving, that's for sure.
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

That one is very good, but lacks an ending. I see they made an extended ending about the mother of the person driving the car who got hit, and the father of the teen driver.

It's something like the no seatbelt, no excuse video about not wearing your seatbelt

Apparently the video is just a taster - teaser - for a longer special produced in Wales. There are many more taster clips from the video in the guy's profile. I'd be interested to watch it, but I don't know if i could take it!
