Re: Sports Forum?
Chit-Chat is Chit-Chat. It can be just fun, or it can be serious chatting. Doesn't matter. Problems tend to fit in anywhere else. And okay, even if you were to change everything I said about a sports forum into an after-school activity forum, then I still can't think of anything that wouldn't fit into another forum. And yes, I very rarely play sports and I am on no sports teams. I do do some after school activities, but I still feel that this would be a redundant forum. And I still cannot think of anything that wouldn't fit in other forums.

Well I could. If you want examples let me know. I have some. I still wanna hear some feedback from the admins, besides Adam, because ultimately it's their decision.Originally posted by four@Apr 15 2003, 06:52 PM

Yes it is, and they also go by the input and debates of the people on the forums. And I would like to hear some of those, cause I really can't think of anything that wouldn't fit somewhere else.

What else could go into extra curricular?
Fashion!
Chit-chat and all its sub forums
Sport
Entertainment
Since when did entertainment get its own forum but we get told that sports is covered by chit chat?? A little bit.. hypocritical??

Re: Sports Forum?
I thought extra curricular could go under school stuff, because theres only bullies and homework, and not much place else to post anything else about school. I mean, you could say you could put it in chit chat, but it's not really chit chat is it, if its a problem you want sorted.

Re: Sports Forum?
Oh and PMFman... if we can get support for the forum I think we can get one. I just think a lot of people have never really thought about it, and their initial reaction is that we want to talk about scores and players and stuff. I really couldn't care less about the sports or about the players or the teams or anything else. If I were mod for that forum, I would allow minimal chit chat about what people do (I'd probably keep a "What do you do" topic pinned), and minimal chit chat about how "My team won against our rivals", and other than that it would be strictly for problems. And please don't attack me about how "I'd let chit chat into the forum" because every forum (except maybe 3 that I can think of) has some chit chat in them. Just some more of my thoughts on the issue.

Re: Sports Forum?
No I'm not trying to spam this topic, I'm just constantly thinking about it because I really really really think it would be a good idea.
I kind of took the sexuality forum as an example off the top of my head, but the more and more I think about it I really like it. It makes a good comparison between one existing forum and what I think a well run activities forum would be like. I guess this is mostly in response to four, but it's for other people as well. Most of the sexuality topics could go into other forums, like Sex Sex Sex, Relationships, or Why Me! (possibly), but the reason that people post in the sexuality forum is because they know when they go in there and post their problem that they will get responses from people who are a lot like them, people who have dealt with problems like that before, and people who are probably best suited to help them out. That's what I think an Activities forum would be a lot like. Yes, they could fit into other forums, but the best place for them would be a place where other people have had similar experiences, and can offer insight that other people couldn't if they really don't know what it's like. Yes I post in sexuality sometimes, if I think a straight person's insight would be useful, but mostly in sexuality I feel redundant because I have no basis for comparison of what these people are going through because I've never been in that situation. You guys get what I mean?
TJ
PS On a side note, compelely off topic, I believe this is my 700th post. GO ME!

Re: Sports Forum?
Chit chat would have to become a completely different set of forums. You would literally have to have an entirely new site for all of these new forums which people want adding.

Re: Sports Forum?
Wouldn't extra curricular look better under school stuff though? I think that would be so much better, having a place to vent about problems other than bullies and homework, cause they don't really belong in chit chat...
I know I've said this so many times... No ones given me an opinion on it lol

Re: Sports Forum?
I still say the admins need to decide what they are doing with these groups. I mean, fashion and entertainment retain their own forums through all the moves.. but we don't have one for sports?
Is this going to be a community, or a help centre?

Re: Sports Forum?
I would try to help keep it mainly problems but what can I do??
See, I think the idea behind it is for problems. Say theres a teacher you need to vent about, or you're worried about what class to take or something... theres nowhere to put those types of questions here. Because I have a lot of things I would like to enquire about regarding universities, but I can't think where they go, so if we did add this forum it would be problem-based.

Hi, I'm a quarterback on my high school football team.? Lately in practice and even once in a game one of the linemen seems to be slipping, and letting players through the line.? I think it's intentional because I've been sacked every time and I don't think this kid likes me too much.? I can't tell my coach because I've tried before and he won't listen.? I'm not sure how to go about telling this kid to stop dicking around and be a good lineman?
This would fit into General. That forum is for the stuff that doesn't fit into one of the others. I feel an extracurricular forum would be rarely used. Most things do fit into other forums. So instead of making up forums for just a couple posts you put any one that seems out of place into general, and most of your posts fit into general health, friends, etc.
And as for Sexuality it has a very large difference in topics than what would go into Sex, Sex, Sex, health, or any other forum. Sexuality is your beliefs and feelings on your sexual practices and personal likes of genders, etc. While Sex is more for actual questions about sex, not about what which gender you like. What would be put into an extracurricular forum would be more properly subdivided among the other forums leaving very few that would fit into it actually. Those few you can then put into general. Therfor an extracurricular forum is not needed and would just be redundant and make the site even more cluttered.

Re: Sports Forum?
Four- let me start off by saying that I really respect you for staying civil and contributing your opinions to this, because I want to hear all opinions, even if they are negative. Even though we disagree on this, I still like and respect you
But to the point, I guess it is a fear of mine too that an Extra-Curriculars Forum may be kind of inactive, but I'm the type of person who says "You never know until you try." I don't think that the forum would make teen help more cluttered, just more comprehensive. You are right, that could fit into General, but at the same time it would still lack the feeling that "You'll get help for this problem here" I think. General just seems to be too general, if you get what I mean. It doesn't offer the same sense of security, or people will understand how I feel feeling I think.
You are right that most problems there is an aspect that would fit into another forum, but that would just scatter the information. We pin important topics in different forums so they won't be lost among the clutter. Instead of allowing these problems/questions to be scattered all over the groups, I think it'd be better if it were all together. I'm trying to get away from the sexuality a bit because I don't want all discussions to be based around it, but I think we are looking at sexuality in different lights. I'm thinking of sexuality as mostly relationships, with the unique light cast on them because the relationship isn't a guy/girl relationship. Which is why I think an Extra curriculars forum would be useful to people, because most of the problems are cast in the unique light of being centered around a club or group or sport, and that can change the whole dynamics of the problem, and ways to go about solving it.
Also, I'd like to point out that in the poll I created, about 91% of the people do play sports. I could do significance tests and tell you if that number is truly representative of TH, but I'm trying to repress AP Stats . I'm thinking it's not too far off the mark, and if so many people do play sports I'm sure people have problems with them.

Re: Sports Forum?
Just for some fun....
YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT! I'm right and you're wrong!
Sorry, I totally just felt like being competely and totally irrational and stupid for a minute. I'm over it now. You may be right about it not being a very active forum, but I'm also thinking we could probably attract some new people by offering that forum. And you never know, maybe people aren't posting about things such as extra curriculars because they don't feel like they have a good place to express their frusterations. I know there were a few times while I was in season when I wanted to vent and ask about a problem, but didn't because I didn't really know where to put it. Which led me to suggesting the sports (no Extra Curriculars) forum in the first place.
But I really really wanna hear some SG Admin's opinions. You're a Chat Admin right four?

Re: Sports Forum?
I'm guessing I'm just going to be told that chit chat forum will cover this topic. But, a sports forum isn't such a bad idea. I'm really into sports psychology and there could be a lot of interesting topics about mental strength techniques rather then bitching about coaches/parents/players. I think if you consider it in that perspective, it seems less fitting in chit chat.

Good Point Mugsy... I really hadn't thought about it along those lines, but yeah, there are a lot of things like that that could also be discussed in the sports/ activities forum. That would make it more active I'd bet.
