A (silly?) Idea To Bring Up
Add a search feature or something by location, so people can find buddies that live in the same area. I'm wondering if I'm the only person from TH in Berkeley

So you're [insert non-straight sexuality here], does it look like I give a damn?

Re: A (silly?) Idea To Bring Up
I was thinking of something like that...but...
I did have a people finder by sexuality...
I will think about it...let me see what others say...

That would be cool. Just so you can easily search for people in your area.

Now here you go again, you say you want your freedom
Well who am I to keep you down
It's only right that you should play the way you feel it
But listen carefully to the sound
Of your loneliness
Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering what you had
And what you lost
Well It's only me that wants to wrap around your dreams
I love you...

Re: A (silly?) Idea To Bring Up
Actually as a member of TH, I wouldn't want that. I come here because no one knowns me, and thats kinda how i like it. I mean many know where i'm from, my name and thoses things, BUT i still just kinda don't want people like kids i knew in HS to come on here and find me. so i'd rather pass on that.

I agree with Cindy.
Think about what the support groups are. People come here for help because they can remain anonymous. It would be pretty scary if I came here to be anonymous and get help...and a guy or a girl from TeenHelp knocked on my door and said, HEY SKYE! I'm so and so from TeenHelp.

Re: A (silly?) Idea To Bring Up
i think we should do it, but you dont have to be in it if you dont want...like only do it by state id say and then you could like talk to the person individually and if they didnt want to tell you anymore they dont have to, or you wouldnt even have to be a part of it.
I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is you
I've found a reason to show
A side of me you didn't know
A reason for all that I do
And the reason is you

Also you MUST think of safety. I hate to say this, but not many of you are legal, which means to allow that with out parent permittion would kinda be insaine. I mean thats why mods have to be at least 14 years of age...
Sorry guys, it just came to mind. Its a good idea, but it won't happen.

Re: A (silly?) Idea To Bring Up
Well COPPA was overturned as being unconstitutional last year so you should not think of it in terms of our problems, however I find it silly to think that everyone on this site is being entirely truthful about their age. There are some sick weirdos out there in the world, that is what I would be scared of.

Re: A (silly?) Idea To Bring Up
Telling them what city your in is totally different than them having what school/university you attend, your first and last name, your general area of residence if not your address. Those are totally different things and that's information that can put you and anyone else in danger. There are countless weirdo's out there. Just go on any AOL or yahoo chatroom (cant say MSN as they shut them down to public) and I guarantee you that within 3 or 4 minutes you will find a 52 year old man posing as a teenage girl who only wants your phone number and full name so they can have information to track you down with, and worse act on it.Originally posted by fluffyhelen@Apr 23 2004, 07:07 AM

Now, TeenHelp has never been a social networking site and we don't ever intend to become one. There are many reasons for this. First, TeenHelp above all is a site for helping teenagers who need help and we help them to the best of our respective knowledge and abilities. Second, TeenHelp does not need the legal liabilities that are inherent with a social networking site. There are too many. Third, it would require a large scale reprogramming of the support groups. There are many other reasons, but those are what come to mind quickest.
Now, if you do want social networking, then see the following sites:

Re: A (silly?) Idea To Bring Up
The idea sounds cool; but I don't know...is it going to be safe? I mean, I come on here because I think of it as a safe place where I can just be myself and talk and not be scared of people that I know to know the true me. If it's going to be something where I can not list myself, then it sounds fine to me.
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
