Je L'ai!
I have it! I have a great idea for an advertising campaign that could really kick butt and double our posting member base. Okay, there is a really easy way that nobody has EVER thought to advertise, and this is GREAT. I must say this is probably my best suggestion ever lol.
Craft a campaign for SCHOOL PRINCIPALS. Send them a letter about how wonderful HT is and see if we get a response. I volunteer to do this MYSELF, so don't tell me it's impossible. I will personally write and send the letter. What an envelope would contain would be a letter to the school administrator about who and what we are, and on top of that a flyer that they can copy and post. I think that mail itself would be very effective. We could try sending this to 100 school principals and see what kind of response we get. That would be a 32.00 investment that could REALLY bring people to the site.
If you'd like, I can also do this by E-MAIL. I would be very comfortable doing it. I'd write up a generic letter that I'd ask to have approved. I'd send it to all school principals on a list of 1,000 and have a printable flyer included. Or better yet, if they are INTERESTED, I will send them the printable flyer. This could bring SO MANY PEOPLE on to HT.o and the site could really reach its potential. Thoughts?

Hey, I think it's a good idea...it might actually work. How would you choose the principals you send it to?

Re: Je L'ai!
Friend,
I am going to be honest, I like your idea very much!
My input however is that anything of this nature will have to be done by the Administration for quality assurance. It is very likely that this could happen. Its kewl as long as the Administration approves everything and is assured that the site will be properly represented.
Again, Its an awsome Idea, but most people who suggest things like this get pissed at us because the administration has to be in control of it. I promise that we are not trying to steal your idea. I mean you are suggesting it to the Administration after all. So don't get upset with me please.
Any such project will have to be in the hands of the Administration.

Re: Je L'ai!
I'd send this to principals in geographic areas that I am fairly certain are more liberal and where people are open to ideas. For instance, I'd send things to California and New England.
Also, in response to what you said Jared, I would actually really like to do this myself. That does not mean I'm going to write a letter and send it. It means the process and everything would have to be scrutinized by the administration, and I would do the same thing every time... send a generic letter that outlines what our site is about and a flyer that is made by the admins. I just want to be responsible for the execution of it so nobody can use time as an excuse. I'm really highly available and i'm good at communication with adults. I think I'd be well suited for this kind of job because I know exactly how to do it.

Re: Je L'ai!
Hmmmmmmm...Interesting..... Im going to remain nutreal on this one for one or two reasons only. First, I think that we have plenty of members, and as more people have problems, more people will come to our site anyway.
And second, I dont know if I woudl really want people that I know personally on the site too beceause there are some problems that I state on here that I dont know if I want my friends and peers to know about. Im sure other people feel the same way, and if you tell a principle about it and they recommend it to students, their might be large amounts of people on the site from the same school district, they put where they are from under their information, and then people figure out who is who and rumors spread.
But, im gonna stay nutreal. Not a bad idea, but I donno. I would like to see what other people have to say first.

Re: Je L'ai!
Sample letter:
Dear School Administrator/Counselor,
Firstly, I'd like to apologize that this letter is not personally addressed to you. As this is a big project, I am unable to take the time involved in hand addressing each of these e-mails. My name is Sam Carmichael, and I'm a teenager. Sure, that's not much of a title, but I'm still an involved member of our society. Like all other teenagers, I have interests, friends, and even problems. But problems can be solved.
As a school administrator or counselor, you are certainly aware that your students have emotional concerns and while schools and parents try to do their part to stay involved in the lives of their teens, dealing with these concerns can be problematic. That's where HelpingTeens.org comes in. HelpingTeens.org is owned by Adam Marshall. The site was founded under a different name and has transferred ownership in the last six years that it has been around. But HelpingTeens.org truly still is living up to its new name.
HelpingTeens.org provides emotional and academic support for anyone in need. One can post any concern that he has on the site and be responded to in a caring, non-judgemental way by countless peers. The site offers multiple outlets of support for teens including Live Chat with peer mentors, the Support Groups (with a 3,500 user member base), Articles by users, and the site's inventive HelpNet system that allows mentors to communicate by means of e-mail with someone in need.
HelpingTeens.org provides a clean and safe environment for teenagers to get exactly what they need; emotional support from their peers. This isn't a site for "troubled teens", it's for all teens. The fact is, all teens have problems, as problems are part of life, and confronting these problems in a healthy way by communicating and finding a solution is a vital part of the problem solving process. The atmosphere is closely moderated by a group of active and skilled teens and site policies are enforced to make sure HelpingTeens will continue to be an excellent source for help.
By providing teens with honest information and covering a broad range of topics, HelpingTeens.org will ensure that a teen can receive the help that he or she needs. We cover topics from Family and Friend issues, relationship problems, homework help and current events to heavier topics such as sex, suicide, self-esteem, and self-harm.
Because HelpingTeens.org has benefited my life so much in the mere year and a half I have been using the support groups, I have taken it upon myself to make others aware of this wonderful outlet for moral support. That is why I encourage you as a school principal or counselor to make your students aware of HelpingTeens.org.
Included is a printable flyer that you can copy and post in your school, or choose to distribute to all of your students. If you have any further interest in the program, I encourage you to contact me by e-mail or speak with a member of the HelpingTeens.org administration. Please remember that this is an opportunity for your students to find a clean and safe place to get help without being judged. Hopefully, you'll decide to take part in spreading the word about HelpingTeens.org. If you're not sure, you should certainly go and check out the site at http://helpingteens.org.
Thanks for your time and have a wonderful day,
Sam Carmichael

I really like this idea too. You should ask for them to make PA announcements also. I dunno, sounds good to me. You should ask people here for their school's address' if they want it advertised at their school.

If you'd like your school included, I can certainly arrange that. I'm going to need a school name and district, city/state in my PM box.
I have added 18 more listings in two districts:
Fairfax County, Virginia
Loudoun County, Virginia
As for P.A. announcements, that's really up to the principals if they want to take it that far. I'm not going to bug them with that.
19 more listings.
DeKalb County, Georgia
