but there are no costs for us anymore with IPB........so I think it would be cheaper to stay with IPB.....

we are already working on things for traffic, you know that.......we don't have to change our hosting just to get traffic.....we are already working on getting traffic.

Yes we are, and that wont change, but your not getting what I am saying.

Search sites, like Google, Yahoo, etc.

Oh and the HOSTING what we are looking at changing.

It's teh forum software. Big diffrence.

Let me throw something in.

I am told there is like $45 in the HT fund. So that leaves us needing $40 more for this year.

Then all we need is $2.5 a month for the next 12 months and we ahev the $30.

Break it down that way and it isnt that bad.

Of course you are.

IPB is slower in comparision to vB. Although I admit right now the site is running at a really fast speed.

And again, if we're making the switch, I would not mind paying the initial fee. I guess like $40 or something.

If the $30 a year is an issue, there is always the potential of some scattered ad that appears only like once every 24 hours. If you go to http://www.ugoplayer.com (Yes, it is the site where I used to be at. Please, for your sake, do not join it), you will probably see an ad, and it says "This ad will display once every 24 hours". If we had something like that, maybe on the main page, it'd get us at least $30 a year, I'm sure. Or even individual donations could get that amount. Or a cookie sale! :)

There is also $30 a year for upgrading it. We have no more fees with IPB.

Also try 160-75=85

[/b]

this is the main reason then . . .

why should we pay for something new when the "old" thing still works perfectly?

Seems kind of unnesessary. IPB is FREEEEEEEE now for a LIFETIME! That's just great. But wait, vBulletin would be free for a lifetime after the $30? Would we be able to get all the features we need with that lifetime support of $30? And will vBulletin really help us with traffic? Why is vB more able to reach google and other search engines? Is it cause it's more popular...

I have many questions =P
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Why pay for something when we already have a lifetime subscription to IPB that we no longer have to pay anything for? I think it's okay the way it is..

I don't really like the layout of vBulliten either.. but whatever.

One thing to consider.

The company that coded our skins has closed. So from what I understand, and I am not 100% clear on this. If we upgrade our IPB we have no skins to go with it.

That's true, however i'm reminded that HT needs a new design.... that doesn't mean that we have to have the support groups and website with a custom skin. There are IPB skins available, and the whole site needs a facelift.

Also,

IPB is free for as long as the product is developed.

vB will be an up front fee of 85 or so, and then a YEARLY 30 dollar (optional) fee for upgrades

Hmm from what adam says i don't think we should switch at all....

why waste money?

So this topic is pretty much settled, correct?

I mean if you have an item that works perfectly fine that will be eternally free then why pay for something that is in turn the same?

I think you've pretty much summed it up nicely. I'd categorize vB as a nice thing to have, but not overly neccesary.
.... and then the post was through.

I'd suggest trying to get more traffic before making any big changes to the layout, especially ones that would cost money, but that's just my opinion..
