I kinda see both sides of this.
In a way I do agree with being able to have it. At least then the people who give really good advice will be acknowledged and thanked in a way.
But then again wouldn't they be acknowledged anyway? If they give great advice they would already be known and they wouldn't need a little "mentor" thing under their username.
Everyone gives at least one bit of great advice per topic...so why is it fair to pick out a couple of people and disregard the others. Everyone gives good advice so wouldn't that just make us all mentors? I mean what would be the point in having them if there was all us being mentors.
Overall I don't see the need to have them. Whether or not you give good advice is your choice. But to do it to get a "mentor" thing under you name and not to actually help people is pathetic. You should help people because you WANT to not because you want to be a "mentor."
Moreover, if a "mentor" said one piece of advice and another said another - maybe the person who needed the advice would disregard everyone elses advice and go with just the "mentors" because they have that position. Would people dare disagree with these "mentors"?
Also, how would you choose these "mentors"?
I believe what Emily said. The main aim is to HELP people...not get more power.
