My Friend

Post by Jack_Treese »

I didn't know whether to put this in Friends/Family or Suicide. I put it in here because it's mainly for my friend's sake I think.

My friend, who we will call John, has a younger sister who he claims to be suicidal and into drugs.

John is always talking to me about this, and whenever I try helping him out, he always says these hateful things about her.

Here's a clip of me and John talking on AIM:

Me: keep on trying

Me: your the better person if you keep it up

John: but she's a smoker and a drug user she has embraced the dark side of my family she let me down she disappointed me I should have nothing to do with her

Me: no

Me: thats where you have to come in and encourage her to stop

Me: your letting her win

Me: your letting the drugs and smoking win

Me: your giving up too easy

Me: give her encouragement

Me: give her hope

Me: be a brother

John: she said she was going to kill herself on her 18th birthday would I be encouraging her if I handed her the knife?

Me: no

Me: youd be giving in

Me: if you love your sister enough, tell your parents that she said that

Me: or tell the family doctor

Me: tell someone important about that man

Me: that aint cool

John: she's already told everyone and I don't love my sister I think I really, really hate her

Me: fine

Me: just helping

John: I might tape it if I get enough warning as to when it's going to happen

Me: your taking a step there

Me: thats good

Me: the next step is turning in the tape

John: turning in the tape of what? her murdering herself? I think it might be a little too late at that point

Me: I thought you meant like her saying something

John: oh no I was talking about if she actually goes through with it but she hesitates, I'm going to grab my camera

Me: oh, thats real nice

Me: pretty sick, actually

John: my sister's pretty sick

John: if she doesn't kill herself, I hope she at least moves out of the house

John: then I don't have to be around her druginess and I get to take her room

John: one time she left her screen name on while she slept and I checked out her Favorites list

John: it was full of sites about how to make bongs and stuff I should've slapped her in the face and kicked her dog

Me: :-(

John: as of right now, I'm the only person in my entire family who has yet to embrace the dark side

John: my cousins Carey and Monique say they haven't but I cannot confirm that

John: would you care to hear something funny?

Me: sure

John: my sister's currently knocking at the door and I will not open it

John: I just looked at her and walked back in here

John: she's still knocking

Me: thats not nice man

It really upsets me because my favorite cousin died from using cocaine. His sister, my other cousin, hated him. She did nothing to help him with his drug use, and he died from it. She, to this day, has the worst guilt in her heart from it and stopped talking to us. I haven't heard from her in four years since it happened.

All I'm trying to do is help him. Instead, he's being ignorant and not listening to me at all. Instead, he keeps on hating his sister more and more. It hurts me to hear this from him.

If someone could help me with this soon, I would appreciate it. Thank you and God bless you.

If your friend will do nothing to help his sister (and it sounds like he is pretty set in his ways about that), then I really think that you should step up and help this girl yourself. Tell your parents, tell someone who can help her. As for your friend tell him that even though his sister has done some bad things, it is still possible to love the person she is. Tell him that things will get better, his sister just needs some help.

Hope I helped. Keep your head up.

Love, the girl next door

I tried talking to him. He says that if I don't shut up about it, he'll never talk to me again.

Yikes! Well, just get his sister some help from an adult w/o him knowing, and maybe things will improve.
