My Religion Textbook Says...
This past semester I took a class called Relationships and Lifestyles. I attend a Catholic school so that class is part of our school's religion curriculum. Well in the chapter about homosexuality, it says that the Church does not renounce homosexuals, but does not want them to engage in any "activities" with people of the same sex. I personally think this statement does put down homosexuals because it prohibits them from having any relationships. I also think it is impossible for someone who is homosexual to not have a relationship with someone else. Therefore, i am making this assumption, if someone does have a relationsip with someone of the same sex, they will be renounced.
I am not saying that the CHurch hates someone who is gay, but i do think what my textbook says the church says does not make any sense.
i don't want to offend anyone with what i am saying, it's just my opinion.

Yeah it is your opinion.
The way I see it, my religion also states homosexual orientation is wrong, BUT, you should love everyone no matter what their faults, and what they do or think or say. Love they neighbour right?
So I can see where you're coming from.

Re: My Religion Textbook Says...
ok, I dont know exactly waht you mean by 'renounced' but I'll tell you what I think.
I think that homosexuality is wrong. BUT I have friends who are gay, and I don't treat them any differently. They're great people!! I wouldn't NOT be someone's friend just because they are gay, that's not right.
I don't think Christians should not be 'gay' peoples friends either. My gosh, they are contradicting themselves if they do. Like 'oneforthemoney' said, 'love thy neighbor.' Also Christians should not judge others, because then they are just setting themselves up to be judged. Ok, I don't know if that made any sense! lol.
anyways, no offense, that's one reason I don't really like the Catholic church. They don' t seem as open to others. Gay or not, you are still a child of God and should be treated as so. Let God have the final say about what is right and wrong. We should just be open and try our best to accept it.
Ok, I don't know if this really has anything to do what you were talking about, but I just thought I'd state some of what I thought.

She's so big hearted
but not so remarkable
just an ordinary humble girl
expecting nothing as we may
to think it's a pretty person's worth
you are beautiful
and you'd better go show it
so go and look again
you gotta be true only if you really wanna go to the top and you really wanna win
don't believe in living normal
just to satisfy demand
Well, if you wanna get free
and if wanna get smart by the sake of your heart
you should own your lame and stand up tall

Re: My Religion Textbook Says...
I don't think a christian should renounce a gay person, because it is a sin no greater and no less than any other sin a christian can commit. Adding on to that I think that no christian should turn their church doors from a homosexual, because there should always be hope that God will lead them away from the sin. I do believe God is the only way to fix homosexuality, if it is but asked for.
They should not renounce the person, but the sin. It's like accepting a liar (which we all are), but that liar should not comtinue to sin by their own will.
Phbbbt I tried to make it make sense

when you sin, you do it out of free will. you know what your are doing iis wrong and you do it.
i am not saying that being homosexual is a sin. I was just responding to what you said about free will and sin.

Well, yes, we all sin and know it's wrong, but I mean deliberate sin. A lot of times we sin before thinking.

Re: My Religion Textbook Says...
as far as it being wrong to not be friends with someone who is homosexual, Christians are told to break ties with a person if they keep sinning, I think this qualifies, just my 2 cents.

Re: My Religion Textbook Says...
so all i need is my doseage of God?
Great.. is he presciption or over the counter?
the catholic church has taken a stance of accepting celebate gay men to the church. So technically they don't condemn the feelings, they just condemn the anal intercourse and relationship. 'actions speak louder then words' the act of being gay [eg: sex] isn't okay by them. Although I think it has very little to do with biblical text in the long run.
just my opinion. we need not argue.

Re: My Religion Textbook Says...
Personally I don't think it's any of my business. I won't treat gays any different, hell, I'm friends with some of them. It's their choice, and I'm not one to judge.
Although they do allow for some pretty funny moments... this one guy was asked what was the weirdest spot he had sex in. With a straight face, he told us: "Inside a woman."
Christians are told in the bible not to judge anyway, so I don't think it should be a problem.

Democracy. It rolls off the tongue nicely. Better than others. I can say it, spell it, define it, but can?t admit to ever believing it. So convoluted has it become that it has mesmerized generations into a comma of perfect sublimity. You dance to the music of your youth, identify with your own memory, become a time capsule of numb comfort. And there, mired in the exhaustion of a life in progress, you surrender your right to question for the luxury of not being bothered.

Re: My Religion Textbook Says...
Friends,
To comment on the origianl post, I alos attend a Catholic School and have been taught what you stated. I think You had a few flaws in your statement however.
The Catholic Church teaches that Homosexual Acts are a Sin. Actually being Homosexual is not a Sin. We are all sinners by nature therefore the Church can not condem homosexuals, who are active, any differnet than anyone else, because we all sin. As Christians we are all called to be loving and accpeting of even the worst sinners and the lowest creatures. After all Jesus surrounded himself with the prostitutes and tax collecters of his time.
I for one am very skeptical about the Catholic Teachings on homosexuality, because of the lack of talk on homosexuality in the Bible, but that is another thread in itself. So I will leave it at that.
There is no question in my mind that we should treat every person equal and not judge, so no matter how you inturpret a Catholic teaching, Christ's teaching of LOVE comes first and foremost.

Re: My Religion Textbook Says...
we all have seen in the news how there is controversy over whether or not gay marriges shoudl be allowed. i think those who oppose gay marriages are mixing state with religion. maybe that's why it's so hard for some officials to make a decision on allowing gay marriages. i think for a long time officials made decisions about laws based on their morals, and for most people, morals are shaped by religion.
i hope that made sense.
