Lesbians In The Church?
My 18 year old girlfriend's aunt recently dragged her off to some church deal and she's starting to become brainwashed by all of that, I think. Not that I have anything against people living/loving/believing in whatever makes them very happy, but I never pictured her as part of that you see.
She wants to be "saved"... she literally said that- and a born-again Christian. I think she feels like she's let her family down so much by being a lesbian that she wants to turn it all around and as those of you who are gay will know, IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY. Obviously, being a lesbian is not on the A list in that Church. She keeps telling me "I don't want to lose who I am"
but I am so afraid she is. I do still love her a lot though... so
If anyone has comments or ideas, that would be so appreciated.
Take care, Jess

Maybe you can try explaining to her that you do love her and you will and do respect her wish to be a born again Christian. Keep in mind, this is her choice, totally. If I were you - I would just be there for her support and I would respect her wish to believe. But, if she decides to try to become "un gay," then I would step in and tell her my civil belief on that. [Your belief on being gay and what is says about an individual, if it changes anything about a soul]. eh?
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Hmm....
You need to sit her down and explain to her that if her family can't deal with her being gay, then that's their fucking problem. Obviously, she must be somewhat insecure with herself if she thinks that she's "let her family down" by being gay.
Whatever, she's not letting them down. She's fucking being HAPPY, right? Tell her that it's her family's problem, not hers....and ::le sigh::
I don't know babe, this could turn out REALLY REALLY badly if you don't do something...seriously...
Tell me how everything goes, okay?

Re: Lesbians In The Church?
i think a person can be gay and christian and somepeople may think that is an oxymoron but so what going to church and being gay are personal choices not group choices made by the church or society, just because it isnt at the top of peoples lists doesnt mean you or your girl friend or anyone shouldnt go to church seriosly we arent living in the dark ages people need to be more accepting God said Love thy neighbor as thyself. so the church is last people that should throw people out for anything-MARY

As much as I want to keep this in Sexuality, the rules dictate that it should be in Religion. So, I'm moving it.

Im a part of the fellowship of the unashamed.I have Holy Spirit power. The die has been cast.I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made. Im a disciple of His.I wont look back, let up,slow down, back away,or be still...
My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my Guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded,or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of the adversary, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity.
I wont give up,shut up,let up,untill i have stayed up,stored up,prayed up,paid up,preached up for the cause of Christ.I am a disciple of Jesus.I must go till He comes, give till i drop, preach till all know, and work till He stops me; and when He comes for His own,He will have no problem recognizing me-my banner will be clear!

If she wants to give being a christian a try, let her go. Maybe she'll find something that works for her.

Just make sure that she realizes that Christianity is all about Jesus, not about politics or hatred against gay people. The message has become distorted these days.

Re: Lesbians In The Church?
Well, it's not exactly as easy as "trying different shoes on and being someone else". Maybe this will help her to have faith in what she believes in, but later on, it could help her lead to faith in herself for who she is. I don't believe she can change who she is attracted to. True, she may believe it is wrong sometime or another, but it doesn't matter. It's whatever makes her happy in the end.
