Gay Marriage
hey everyone. i would like to know how many of you think gay marriage should be approved in the U.S.
i want to send it in to the state. but i dont know how to go about doing that. do you send it to the president? my mom you would probably have to send it to him...help on that?
but please say wether or not you think it should be allowed, your name, age, and your reason for believing it should be allowed.
thanks.
#1. Anna..i think it should be allowed. i believe that you should be able to marry who you love. just as love is not color coated it shouldn't have to be with the oppisite sex either. you can't help your emotions, and by saying that...you can't help who you love. and you shouldn't have to reject your feelings of marriage because you are attracted to the same sex.

2) Ruth, 18, UK:
I believe marriage is for everyone. If you love someone so much you want to be with them forever, then what is so wrong about having two gays marry? Or two lesbians? Are you worried that the population will drop? There are more hetrosexual couples than gay couples, so its not likely the population will drop.
You can argue that in the Bible it says G-d disagrees with homosexuality...but it also says G-d made everybody who they are. If that is the case, then G-d must have made certain humans gay. If a person who likes the same gender as theirself, they cant help it...they were born like that. Like you may have been born straight, others are born gay, lesbian, bi etc. And denying people who are'nt 'straight' the right of marrying someone the same sex as theirself is prejudiced and wrong.
It does'nt matter if you're straight, gay, bi, black, whatever, everyone EVERYONE should have the right to marry if they love somebody so much.
My thoughts.

3) Jeff...I say that gay marriage should be legal...living in the land which is known for its freedom, we can not nor should not make an amendment to not allow two people who are in love to get married...
Also, i think it will be more effective if you send it to your local senate represetitive and also the one in the house....you can send it to the president too, but i think you will get more response if you send it to your local...

Re: Gay Marriage
I believe that gay marriage should be legal......the only really reason ppl can come up with to not make it legal is "thats what it says in the bible." Somehow, I always thought that freedom of religion implied the right to freedom from religion as well. The Bible has absolutely no standing in American law, as was made clear by the intent of the First Amendment and because it doesn't, no one has the right to impose rules anyone else simply because of something they percieve to be a moral injunction mandated by the Bible. Not all world religions have a problem with homosexuality; many sects of Buddhism, for example, celebrate gay relationships freely and would like to have the authority to make them legal marriages. In that sense, their religious freedom is being infringed. If one believes in religious freedom, the recognition that opposition to gay marriage is based on religious arguments is reason enough to discount this argument.

I fully support the idea of gay marriage but one must be cognizant of the incredibly powerful role that evangelical Christianity plays in American politics.

Molly, 18:
I think gay marriage should be legal simply for the fact of love. No one can help what they feel inside nor can they help who they love. So therefore I think it should be legal. Just because someone likes the same sex doesnt mean they should have to live their life without because married to the person they love the most.

I do not think individuals of the same sex should get married. I definitely support civil unions so they can recieve all of the same rights, just don't call it marriage. The accepted definition of marriage in most of the world is a bond between a man and a woman, not two individuals of the same sex. I totally agree with that definition.
Secondly, marriage is not soley about love. Bringing it down to that simplistic definition is terrible. You don't get married just to fullfil the human desire of love. Its so much more than that. In my opinion, two individuals of the same sex will never have reach the same point in their relationships as two individuals of the opposite sex.

Marriage=Man and Woman
Civil Union=Anyone
The fight over two men or two women getting married is not a fight over marriage, it is a fight over being able to have the same rights as a man and a woman who decide they love each other enough to spend the rest of their lives with one another. You dont need a sheet of paper telling you that you are married to someone else. You become a married couple when you, the other person, and God(or whatever religion) recognize that you love each other with ever fiber of your being, not when you put rings on each others hands and sign papers for the courts. Marriage has never been what is important in these protests, it's be basic human rights and equality. Thats my thought on it.-Drew

Re: Gay Marriage

Gay marriage is neccessary because a civil union does not give 2 people the same rights that marriage does. If it did, nobody would be fighting. France made civil unions available to everyone (with the same rights as marriage), and even heterosexual couples are choosing civil unions. Homosexual couples are simply looking for equal rights. That's it. I think the biggest reason the public is against gay marriage is because they believe the misconception that civil unions give equal rights. If someone was willing to educate the public on the facts, and leave politics out, I think the mentality of this country would shift dramatically. Of course, being the cynical guy that I am, I know that this will never happen. An ignorant public is a happy public, right?

Re: Gay Marriage
I'm just going to say, that i agree with gay marriage, and skip right to the heart of the conflict, God.
We've all read the bible, or even heard some of it. And alot of us know, that some of it is incorrect, in all kinds of fields like history, science, and just plain common sense. The truth of the matter is, that the bible may have been created by God, but it was written through the hands of man, and man is corrupt, and errorful. With this said, don't any of you think that it might just be possible, maybe, that God does AGREE with homosexuality? If he created us gay, why should he hate us? If he didn't want us to be in love with someone of the same sex, than why are we? Why would he create our soul mates from the same sex? Why would he want us to live a life in loneliness and sadness, rather than let us love someone? I can't say God would wish that upon ANYONE. So i can't say he would create us to live a life like that.

TJ, 21.
I think there's an inherant flaw in the system when the government is allowing the church to fulfill the function of creating legally binding marriages. If the churches want the authority to marry people, that's fine, but don't let those people dictate who should and shouldn't be allowed. Call it what you will, civil unions, marriage, fhwbdgads, whatever you want, but I do think that monogomous homosexual couples should be afforded the same rights, privledges, responsibilities and civil liberties as their heterosexual counterparts in the eyes of the law.

((Stick with me here- you know. If it doesn't make much sense. I'm kind of in a hurry to go out somewhere but I wanna state my opinion the best I can first))
I think it should be legal. I think marriage was only given the definition of man and woman years ago because that's what was recognized most, and when civilization saw it as "wrong" considering it was "unfamiliar" to them and their ways. It doesn't matter what you look like, your race, religion, whatever. We should not mix such things in with human rights. So what if you don't feel comfortable? It doesn't hurt anyone else. It is not intentional even if it had. It is a humanly function and we're taught that we should treat each other equal. So where is THAT the ONLY unhuman thing now? If this place is about equality, why are we being more seperated?

Dear President Bush,
My name is Jenna. You don't know that name right now, obviously, but you will know it in June of 2007. I'll be the hot girl outside your little house waving a stick that says, "I have rights too, asshole."
You stance on gay marriage is absolutely appalling. Your ignorance is degrading, and perhaps unknowingly, you are creating a split nation. Marriage is a right for all. Times are changing, and as the youth of today are growing older - we're following what we feel is right. We're not afraid of coming out and showing our true colors.
There's more of us that you think.
Have a fabulous day,
Jenna, 16

Re: Gay Marriage
ok...i changed what i said after thinking more into it...what to do think? here it goes
I believe that gay marriage should be allowed in all states, because no matter what state you are in you should be able to marry who you love. why should people have to limit themselves to who they love? or even go to a different state just to marry someone? how would you like the government telling you that what you're doing is wrong? you wouldn't like it...no one does! so why should they have to go through that. you are forcing people to believe what is not true. it is not wrong to love anyone. if you can marry someone of a different color, then i believe you should be able to marry someone of the same sex. we have been living by this "rule" for so long people are now afriad to admit their sexuality. which should not happen. we live in a free country. how is it free if we can't love freely? i just don't understand so many things behind this. in my eyes religion plays a part in this law. how do people know that back in God's time there weren't homosexuals? that is one thing that isn't stated in the bible. i know, i've read it several times. i, myself, am a fairly religious person, and even i believe it should be allowed. i know deep down in everyones hearts there is something telling them that you shouldn't have to limit yourself to what sex you can love. i will have kids someday, and i don't want them growing up in a society that they have to limit themselves to anything. i want them to know they can express themself without fear of what they are doing is wrong, especially when it comes to love. yes, i know i am a 16 year old girl. but i am entitled to my opinion, as is everyone else. i know they're are plenty of people who dissagree with this. but that's where age comes in to it. think about it for a second; most of the people who dissagree with gay marriage, are senior citizens. how much longer are they going to be here? we, the youth of this country, think it should. they have already lived out their lives, and i don't believe they should have more power with their believe than we do. i know you probably wont take any of this into consideration considering this has been a topic of discusion for a long time. but please, do all of us a favor, and think about it. and you tell me if somewhere in your heart you don't believe that long shouldn't have limits.

Absolutely. That's how I'd say it if I were responding to this in real life. So hence, yes.
I don't see what the big deal about it is, lol.
