Bad Luck Caused Us To Restore The Database

Post by OverDrive »

HelpingTeens.org has had the worst case of bad luck with servers and hosting. Friday night about 10 PM EDT, the server's harddrive failed and took the current database and files with it. Since we had just moved servers and we were not back at 100% full strength, our backup script was not setup to run automatically every 12 hours. We had some MAJOR DATA LOSS because of this. All posts between the 24th, to the time the server's hard drive failed, have been lost.

This was BAD LUCK and not a problem with our host Jonathan, as this was a real failure of the hard drive (said by one of the Network Operations Center administrators) in a MANAGED server environment (managed meaning only the company who physically has the servers in their data center had full access to the system, who kept it running, and do all of the software and security updates for us). The following has happened:
  • We have restored a backup from 2005.02.24 at 12:21 AM EDT.
We are sorry for the loss of your posts and registrations and we are very sorry for any inconvenience this has caused, or will cause you.

I can't think of a better use of server resources... I really can't.
