Re: Why...do You Believe In God?
well, i think i can explain some of those with BIOLOGY lol, but yep......those are good points indeed. Seriously, i accept that the BIG BANG THEORY could be true, but where did the original banging stuff come from?!?!?!
When I hear somebody sigh that Life is hard, I am always tempted to ask, Compared to what?
If we did the things we are capable of, we would astound ourselves.
Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.
You see things; and you say Why? But I dream things that never were; and I say Why not?
It is a hard matter, my fellow citizens, to argue with the belly, since it has no ears.

I'd love to hear your explinations, seriously i would. And i mean that, its not just that i wanna argue and disprove them or any thing like that =P Though if i can disprove i will lol.
The big bang theory: God spoke and BANG! It happend!
Thats what i believe, and thats what i will contiue to believe untill the day i die.
And exactly what you said! Where did the banging stuff come from? Well?

oh, i don't REMEMBER haha, i just know we learned some of those things, and by INDIRECT evidence( meaning they don't REALLY have proof) they can "prove" some of those things that you said.

Adnama, it seems like you are trying to force others to believe in god/in your god. And they won't, people have a right to believe what they believe.

Re: Why...do You Believe In God?
Bah! What is this? You get me interested and then you go and forget? Go figure! =P
Besides that... interdiect evidence... that defeats the perpous of my points. Ok yeah, people can... speculate about how the things i mentioned came about, but they cant prove them, and that is exactly my point. People have no idea how those things can be 'proven' [because they cant].
Do you remember which of the things i said can be "proven" by your indirect eveidence? You got me interseted now! Heheh.
Resistfromnormal: Merph, dose it really seem like that? I'm trying hard not to sound too forceful... yes people do have a right to believe in what they want... and sorry if i sound like i'm trying to force any one. But the thing is.. its a tough trade off you know? My beliefs tell me to go out and try and convince people to believe in God, its part of my job as a christian you know? Its tough not to try and do some of that when i'm here.
I'm sorry though, and i will try to 'rope it in' where i can.

I understand that concept greatly, and its one of my pet peeve's, I ask that you educate, just don't force... Get what I'm saying, if you educate somebody on the subject they will be more likely to understand a remember it as and positive experience.

Re: Why...do You Believe In God?
Where did the laws of the universe come from (gravity, inertia, etc.)? - we learned this one in physics, its pretty obvious i think.
How can mutations (recombining of the genetic code) create any new, improved varieties? (Recombining English letters will never produce Chinese books.) - biology...the way you say it (letters...) that wont work, but they had pretty good reasons in bio.
With what did the first cell capable of sexual reproduction reproduce? - biology, didn't they just oh whats the word i'm looking for....? uhm use i dunno its either conjugation or or or....damnit what is it...? mitosis?? or budding, or whatever the one it is when they split in two....
When, where, why, and how did: a) Single-celled plants become multicelled? (Where are the two- and threecelled intermediates?) b ) Single-celled animals evolve? c) Fish change to amphibians? d ) Amphibians change to reptiles? e) Reptiles change to birds? (The lungs, bones, eyes, reproductive organs, heart, method of locomotion, body covering, etc., are all very different!) How did the intermediate forms live? - yep, we learned all this in BIO too.....in the "evolution" chapter... LOL
the animals all just evolved. through mutations, adaptations, survival of the fittest, natural selection...ETC
of course i don't BELIEVE this, but it is what we are taught

Cells reproduce by splitting up into 2. and then again, another 2 and so on until they get larger. However that idea doesn't disprove the existance of a god, the way I would look at it (if I believe in the Christian god that is), is he/she is still perfecting/crafting humans. Then again others say we're just gonna destroy the world.

Also, If I grew a third arm, "working" would be alot easier...
Mutation/Evolution has been proven and religous people should accept that (their) god made people/animals capable of advancing and greater understanding of things. He/She wanted people to ask;
Why?

*is sorry she dosnt have her bio book with her... prints out xwhereis's responce and makes another note to self to look it up tomorrow at school* I will get back to you on that one, i wanna look up and see if our books ahve these reasons first.
And i think the word your looking for is mitosis... either that or miosis, i get those mixed up, one is just cell reproduciton, and the other is for sexual reproduction- it reduces the number of chromosomes so that the offpsring dostn have to many. I think that one is miosis... ahh well no matter.
I hate the fact that they teach evolution and nothing else in school, we havent gotten into evolution in any great depth yet, but i know we will soon. *sighs* from what i've seen there is sooooo little backing the theory of evolution up, theres hardly any real poof. INfact theres this scientist in florida who's offering like 25,000 bucks or something liek that to any one who can bring him sufficant proff of evolution!
Annnny way.

Jsut one question, maybe i'm just not geting whta your saying, but how do the cells get larger by spliting? The reason cells split infact is to keep them from getin glarger, the spliting regulates their size and keeps them small... so how do they grow?
Or are you not talking about the cells them selves but about the organizim they're makeing up? I probably just missunderstood you, and i'm a curious person who cant just assume, i have to ask =P

Re: Why...do You Believe In God?
For Once i can say that there is actually a topic in the religion forum that is continuing to get more interesting without forcing of opinions and any major fighting CONGRATs to all of you who posted!!!!
You all have good points, I believe that GOD created us, Now how he created us is a whole other story
And i am totaly open to the BIG BANG and The whole evolution thing :-) I think it is very possible, But still GOD (in my eyes) created w/e started the world as it is now, as it will be, and as it was.

Re: Why...do You Believe In God?
Well, look at it this way..
Plants...
Plant cells reproduce by getting energy, the sun provides that energy (as well as water) Now when the cell splits in two, it still lives and continues to gain energy/food so therfor it grows.
Its kinda like a pregnant woman getting smaller (i mean, regressing in age) after she has her kid, it just doesn't happen, the mother and the child grow... and eventually die... Hope this helped.

Re: Why...do You Believe In God?
and damn it! your making me go off topic, lol!!
I believe in god(s) because (to me) something sparked a series of events, and the thing that did that as well as helped it evolve and live well is what I call "god."
Thats my view since us wiccans don't explain being here too well... lol... i'm gonna get my head ripped off for that one.

Re: Why...do You Believe In God?
Yeah it defenately grows.... but not by... much. Because when it gets to a cirtain size it splits again. *shrugs* how did we get from "why do you believe in God," to "cell devision" any way?
Man, this topic is so far off topic, hehe, but it is a great discussion!
And i have a comment to add to the whole thing with my unanswerable evolution questions that are supost to be proven in my bio book
I havent looked in my bio book yet, so i dunno what the argument to this is, but, since when are mutations good? I've yet to see a mutation in any organisim that adds any thing to it, none of them add information to the organisim. Some are benificial yes, but they dont add genetic info, in most cases its lost to some degree. YOu have to think, SO MANY information-increasing mutations would have to take place inorder to change a buncha half dead fish into all the many organisims you see now, thta it sould be eazy to find the same mutations happening today, but we have yet to see even one.
I dunno if that makes a whole lotta sence, i'm sleepy lol.

Re: Why...do You Believe In God?
Well of course, mutations take a LONG time, but if one organism has a mutation and it is benificial, eventually more of them will survive, and reproduce creating MORE of them. MUTATIONS ARE GREAT...really...lol.
like the peppered moths in london
they all started out white....a few were black though. When the industrial revolution happened the white bark turned black, and the moths that were black weren't eaten by the birds because they were harder to see. Eventually most of the moths became black...because more survived and reproduced..
wow i wonder if that made sense... oh well, i guess thats more of natural selection than a mutation too...

Re: Why...do You Believe In God?
You took the words out of my mouth, black moths already existed, they wre just "naturaly selected" over the white ones, cause all the white ones died hehe.
But yeah, mutations take a long time... but wouldnt we see some of them to day if these info-adding-benificial mutations did infact exist? *shurgs*

We do see them.... how do we know that that that having two legs isn't a mutation? that eventually worked into survival of the fittest, and thats all we have now.
huh huh huh?
lol
