Time passes. Even when it seems impossible. Even when each tick of the second hand aches like the pulse of blood behind a bruise. It passes unevenly, in strange lurches and dragging lulls, but pass it does. Even for me.

No, they would not pull you out of highschool, and also you are female, a female has never been drafted in the US. You do not even have to sign up for the selective service act.

I blame the government. They killed interest in politics and therefor knowledge on the subject.

Re: U.s. Draft By June 15th, 2005?
I believe not too long ago the vote for that bill went to the floor. 2 people voted for it. This is hearsay from a friend of mine, but he's pretty politically active and I believe him. There won't be another draft. My thoughts on the draft:
First of all, in the new draft, homosexuality is the new Canada. You better believe people will be coming out left and right in order to dodge the draft. Under the don't ask don't tell policy, basically homos are incompatable with military service. While that policy is a load of bullshit, you'd better believe I'd exploit that to my advantage if push came to shove. Either don't ask don't tell would need to be revised (maybe.... abolished! **GASP**) or else people will be dodging left and right to get out of service.
2) If there is a new draft, women should take part too. Women are all militant about equal rights, fine. You also therefore have the equal right to serve your country in the time of war. No longer are there trenches and front lines. If women are as equal as they like to claim they are then you can push buttons and operate machinery just as well as men, so you get drafted too.
3) While there are arguments on both sides of the fence about the "representative free will army" of the US, forcing everyone to go is not the solution. This is me getting snotty and arrogant, but I can afford college. I don't need the grants or loans of the military to finance my education, I don't need the military in order to bolster my career, and I certainly do not need the military in my life for any reason whatsoever. Forcing me to join the army against my will is not the way to even the "socio-economic class differences in the armed forces. That has some very socialistic/communistic overtones to it that quite frankly make me very nervous.
4) While I support our troops in the Middle East and wish them nothing but the best, I do not support the war. I understand it, but as Iraq neither a) poses a significant threat to us and b) we went to war on some of the flimsiest legal grounds in history, I can't say that I could consiously choose to be for this war. Let's remember way back when people.... why did we invade Iraq? Not because the people were so oppressed, but because Bush was blowing smoke up our asses about "Weapons of Mass Destruction". Do we not remember Bush's ultimatum to Saddam Hussein about "disarming or else?" We went to war to disarm Saddam. 2 years later, no WMD's, and all of the sudden it's all about "freeing the Iraqi people." Basically it was a smoke and mirrors trick to fool the American public and sadly for the most part it worked. It worked so well that half of the time when I bring it up that Bush told a blatent outright lie to the American people and that he started a war because of this lie, I get attacked as "unamerican" and "antihumanitarian" and all these other things. I think freeing the people of Iraq is a noble cause. I also don't think we are the ones who should be doing it. Therefore, with no clear consience can I actively take part in a struggle in which we should not be involved. Freedom has never worked until the citizens of the nation are willing to die for it. We Americans know this, the French know this, the British know this, the Spanish, the Germans, every country that is now or ever was a major player in history knows what revolution is all about. It's about freedom, it's about fighting and being willing to die for freedom. And yet, here we are handing it to the Iraqi people on a silver platter. Every part of me is shrieking out that freedom attained by someone else and given to you is not valued, and I cannot actively participate in the coddling of other people.

Speaking of using the homosexual policy to your advantage, a close friend of my friend's brother (his brother is in the army and so was this person) came out as gay to avoid being deployed to Iraq. He did get a dishonorable discharge, but he is not going to Iraq...

Or flee to Canada. (like former President Clinton! )
I personally don't believe that there will be another draft. Thank goodness....I believe that we (The US) will always have people ready to die for our country.

Yeah that bugs me too. Most gays who come out in the military even with good records don't usually come off it with an honorable discharge. Before don't ask don't tell came about usually homos could come off with one, but now most are lucky for a "less than honorable" discharge if not dishonorable. Apparently according to the military homosexuality is just as bad as espionage, sabotage, treason, murder, and the like. Great.Originally posted by four@Mar 24 2005, 06:31 PM

Anywho, I should probably clarify that I am willing to submit myself to a draft in defense of the country. To me Iraq is not about defense.
