It can be caused by a (perceived) instability in your balance-organs, located in your ears. This in turn can be caused by nausea, sickness, willpower, alcohol or drugs.
If it becomes too much of a problem there are some spots on your hands you can press to stabilise them again, I'm not sure which finger it was again, but I thought middle-finger. Palm of the hand, where the first finger joint connects to your hand.
