"important Topics"

Post by Gandalf » Wed Feb 12, 2003 2:21 pm

I think the words, "Important Topic" for the pinned topics should be changed. Important Topics suggests that anyone elses topic is not important, and therefore their problem is not important. I think it should be changed to, "Pinned Topics" , "Main Topics" , "Core Topics" or something else that doesn't de-value the other topics. I know its a small issue but I thought it needed mentioning.

I agree with Gandalf, it is a small issue however there are many users who are at the edge of thier branches and little things can trigger bigger things or can be the straw that breaks the camels back.

Yeah I do pick at little things all the time too..but with the siggy picture I was just pointing out why they were told it was too big and copying in the rules, not passing judgement on whether it was...

I think thats wrong. They're not more important. So.....they're the rules. but is that more important than somebody who was raped....i dont think so. I think it just makes the mods or whoever put them there look like they think they're all great and they are "important" when really all they do is post alot and maybe delete a few while they're at it.

I'm sure it makes people feel utterly degraded, horible, miserable... that the sticky topics are labelled as important and theirs aren't? If someone honestly takes offense and is hurt by that, there's something wrong with them beyond having their topics not labelled important. That's like all this PC crap you get nowadays. Bah.. whatever.

I say change it to "pinned topics" or like "Hot topics" you know something other than impotant, prolly pinned though cause that gives it no higher value that the other post. I know it sounds petty, but as i stated before, there are many people here who have major things going on in their lives and little petty things can set them off and we don't want that, I know I don't want that.

I don't really see it as a problem. I mean, how many people look at them and say "they're more important, so I'll just read them..."
That's me in my avatar, wasn't I soooo cute!? (I still am, but... not AS cute, hehe, j/k :) )

Thats what I meant. When your really depressed little things can push you over the edge, I didn't want to say before because people have said that was silly in the past.

Important Topics are generally important information pertaining to the use of the board that NEED to be read in order to fully understand the rules and such. Forum topics are not important to ensure the forums are being used correctly and that information is not being repeated. If you really feel it's that big of a deal, go for it, but I don't see the problem with telling people there are certain posts that are important to read before they post.

<span style=\'font-family:Times\'Something told the wild geese

It was tine to go

Through the fields lay golden

Something wispered- "SNOW"

Leaves were green and stirring

Berries,luster-glossed

But beneath the warm feathers

Something cautioned- "FROST"

All the sagging orchards

Steamed With amber spice

But each wild breast stiffened

At rembered ice

Something told the wild geese

It was time to fly-

Summer sun was on their wings

Winter in their cry
