Debate Forum

Post by Senna »

Can we have a debate forum?

Like they can be a bit hot sometimes, but I used to seek them out when I was younger. Only two times did they get really "hot" that admins had to step in though and I've debated on several sites. If people are open and able to put themselves in others' shoes, it can work out nicely.

Friend,

Thank you for the suggestion.

We have recently made an effort to consolidate forums in order to provide a more orderly environment where teens have the best chance of getting help quickly.

If there is a topic that you wish to debate, perhaps you should consider making a post in The Lounge, be sure to keep it friendly.

-Hope this helps

yeah a debate forum is rather dangerous as people sometimes take it as a chance to attack, so long as you can keep it civil its ok.

yea i think a debate forum would be a bad idea. it would just turn into a place to fight with each other.

I believe I used to moderate that forum, and it did alright, just needed some attention from the mods...

I forget whether or not I was the one who killed off the debate forum in my consolidation plan that was implemented earlier this year. I may be guilty of it - but I'm going to agree with the above posts that we should allow debates in The Lounge as long as they're kept friendly. Heck, I'd even encourage them.

As much as I'd like to see a debate forum, I understand why it was overall decided that it shouldn't be implemented. However, please please if there is something you want to debate, I'd love to see some disscusions going on in the lounge that I could join in to. If you have anything in mind do post!

We actually used to have it ... we only removed it because we were consolidating forums to make the forums look less cluttered - there was no actual objection on the part of those who made the decision to the content or nature of the debate forum. We should get some healthy debates going, though!

Hi Senna!! :)

I hope you're OK.

I think the 'Debate Forum' idea is GREAT!!! But obviously there is some resistance to it - which is OK - so why not [Semi-officially] consider the 'Chat Forum' the place to DEBATE?! When a debatable topic is being posted - simply put in the subject line, 'DEBATE:'

For example:

'DEBATE: Are Apples Better Than Oranges?'

lol

Well..... you get the idea!!

Just a thought.

And here's another one.

The first rule of ANY argument [Or debate] is that a person loses the moment they resort to a personal attack.

I say yay to Craig! as long as everybody keeps it civil and rule friendly, we can definitely have debates in the Chit Chat fourm.

Friends,

I see no need to create a forum for debates.

I agree that civil debates can be had in the chit-chat forum.

Perhaps we should develop a "tag" that should be standard in the description of threads that are for debate, so that people can avoid the thread if they do not wish to be involved, and to assist staff in keeping up with any issues.

I agree, no need for a "forum" but rather that can and should be done in Chit-Chat.

Why not change the "Current Events" forum into "Current Events and Debates"? Then you can deal with two topics, which are often quite similar, in one forum. It works efficiently elsewhere, so maybe it'd be a good thing to implement rather than clogging up chit-chat with debates which are often not the lighthearted things chit-chat would imply them to be.

Oh and after looking through the chit-chat forum it's quite difficult to find debate threads as not everyone has helpfully named them "Debate:.."as Craig has done. Maybe, if you do decide to leave debates in chit chat, you could design a special icon to signify that the thread is a debate thread or a thread prefix like "Debate:".

Sorry it wouldn't let me edit my last post.

I like Seraphiel's idea; I think we should go with it
