Mormon Missionaries

So today, two very nice Mormon missionaries came to my door... they argued with me about theology for almost half an hour, and then they gave me a book of mromon and they told me to call them.



They basically foisted it upon me. Is there something wrong with this, or am I just being paranoid?

Hmmm, I did'nt realise Mormon did that, though I know Joviah's Witnesses do...



If like Joviah's Witnesses, they see it as their position to spread the word of G-d round (I think), hence why they do the door to door thing...However, having a friendly debate about theology is ok, me and my dad sometimes have a debate with the Joviah's Witnesses whocome round.Sometimes we just chat about stuff, not nessceraily religious stuff.



There is one thing I have puzzled about Joviah's Witnesses though: Why are people really hostile to them?One girl in my Philosphy and Ethics class said we should'nt open the door to them cos we won't be able to get rid of them...And quite a few people in the class are nasty about them...I have to stop myself from saying what I have discovered about what most of the people in that college are like (no offence to the Catholics on here, if its annoying and upsetting when you have some people who are Catholic say 'Oh you're going to Hell' because I'm not baptised and not particulary a strong Christian ) Anyways, from what I've noticed, I have friends who Joviah's Witnesses who are really nice, so why do people hate them just because of their religion?

Well, it has to do with their theology.



Jehovah's witnesses can come off as being a little aggressive with their "going to hell" doctrine--basically anyone who's not JW goes to hell.



But hey, how is this different from Catholic (like you said)? Or Southern Baptists? or Pentecostals?



With mainline protestantism moving towards a more universalistic viewpoint, this is what some would call the conservative backlash.



I'm happy that you can see JW's as people, not a religion.

Paranoid? They're just JWs.... we just don't answer when they come to our door. They obviously care to spread the word, but they can be a little over the top sometimes, so we avoid them. My family doesn't like conflict, even friendly conflict.



To me JWs have always been around. It's normal.

Right, but the UU's see God as a unity or one god, and some don't even see him/her as that, it's more of a force...



The Mormons see it as three distinct identities... it's a very interesting theological blend. Really? Neoplatonicism and all those doctrines? Wow.

lol one day a mormon went to my freinds house she is a christian and doesnt have anything against them but they are argueing and shes all like i all ready know Jesus and they are like but do you know OUR Jesus... shes like nope i guess i am going to hell and slammed the door in thier faces... LOL that was grand but i believe the mormon faith is a little (nay alot) screwwy i tend to stay away from them -MARY

I just dislike ANYONE going to peoples doors about religion. I know they are spreading the word of their god, but still. I feel like when those people come to my door, they are pushing their religion on me. I had a JW tell me that i was going to hell one day. I looked at her and said "Its very rude to judge people, I thought only god could judge people....." She was like Im a spokes person sent from god. I was like Then go speak to someone else.....Im sorry, I just dont like being told that im wrong for not believing in anything......

Honestly, I can deal with JWs depending on my mood. I live in an apartment, and last year they got locks on the building doors so I don't get door-to-door people anymore. But, I live in Ann Arbor, so downtown is mostly just like campus for UofM and you meet the weirdest people there. It's hard to be somewhere there and not run into somebody talking about religion, sometimes I talk to them and sometimes I tell them to fuck off when the tell me I'm sinful and need to be saved.

Yeah, they're like, fucking crazy.

I don't have a problem with religion until somebody knocks on my door telling me to find god and join their church. That's fucking overstepping their bounds.



I invite them in, calmly listen to them rant and rave about how great Jesus is, get a mormon bible, add it to my collection, and then whisk them away.



Or I just slam the door in their faces and tell them that religion is a CHOICE, and that people don't need help from people riding out around in suits on bicycles.



It all depends on my mood.

oh funny story about a mormon missionary dude!



so mormons ride bikes while on their evangelical trips. two road by me, and i saw the second guy's tie.

it was like this:

Me: hey i like ur tie! -waves-

him: -turns around and winks- thank you! -waves-

-smacks into sign-



i ran away. i felt really bad, but i couldn't help but laugh. hehe.
