termination

Post by SirPostAlot »

Ehh so tomorrow is the day *shrug* my first firing . . .

We employed this girl who has skipped out three times (today was her 3rd) . . . each time she has excuses (no babysitter, didn't know, . . . ) but we don't know what this one is, and as much as i liked her spirit at work - we cannot keep that...

I am sort of scared to do it though...the head cook and I sat down and figured out what we are going to say and do to prevent legal actions and such (you know how some people will file assault or something like that)...

*scared*

why worry??? this is her choice. It is her choice not to talk to you and it was her choice not to show up for work. whatever the reason she chose not to show up. Its not your fault, and you have nothing to be worried about. If the check is voided it is also her fault for not coming to pick it up.

*hugs* dont worry hun.

Its her responsibility. You're not responsible for her actions or her decisions.

Generally people know when they are fired and will just accept it. I've only ever had to fire one person before. What I usually try and do is sit down and talk to them the first time something goes wrong, then the second time something goes wrong talk to them again and take any disciplinary action I can take, then after the third time they start getting phased off the schedule. So eventually they either just quit or we let them go.

I got fired once and they never told me. So oneday, about an hour before my shift i went in, and was about to go back to the break room, and the managaer stopped me and asked what i was doing. I told them i was going to get ready for my shift and they told me then that i had been fired, and brought out my file to sign it. I refused cuz they had never told me or called me or anything, they just expected me know and i didnt. I didnt know, or even suspect. I was rank pissed at them.

u seriously think missing 3 times is unresponsible. I guess it depends on how long she has been working there, and if she atleast called to say she couldn't come, even if it was at the very last minute. I mean, if she couldn't find a babysitter, what was she suposed to do? I see why the company would want to fire her though. Personally, I'd be afraid to miss work. My emplyer is usually nice, but she's also very finachy, and when people don't show up she flipps out, and takes her anger out on the people who are there. It's unlikely that she'd fire a cheff or server for not showing up a few times, but I just wash dishes, and am therefore expendable. and back to this particular situation, I do agree that it's not your responsibility, but I think it's good that you care, just don't let it get to you too much. People need to care for other people, even if the person brought it on themselves. People make mistakes. Should we all just forget about the homeless people. To end up on the street, most of them made bad decisions. It's there fault, but they still deserve help. Even though it was their fault, they still deserve my concern. We shouldn't ignore them, or stare with cold faces.
