Gay Schools

Post by flora »

Hmm, okay well. I know one of my other posts was about college too but I really need your input on this! thanks.

I'm planning on transferring out of the junior college I go to now next year, and there are a couple of options. The first college that I really like a lot for it's music program is just great, excellent teachers, beautiful campus. It's also about 95% Caucasian people and absolutely no OUT gay people. not one, literally. I'm really scared that I won't make any close friends if I go there, and the last thing I need is a new group of girls who only talk about boys and bore the life out of me. I'm afraid they'll think badly of me, basically.

Or, I could go to an overrated (but mediocre) art/music school and be completely accepted and make lots of lesbian and gay friends, which I'm totally looking for.

What would YOU do? seriously?

I would go to the college I WANT to go to. In my opinion, it doesn't really matter about sexuality: if there's gay people there or not, it's not about sexuality... it's about the education. And you can meet people outside of school that are gay or whatever. Go to the school you want to go to, which one do you find yourself more interesting in?
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

i agree...

no matter if the college has people who are out or not there are going to be peole there who do love you for who you are...

i would go to teh school taht you love the most and the one that is more accredited - becuase in the long run that is what matters in hopes that you get a good job, etc...

Man, I'd go to the gay school.

Seriously, whatever. Undergrad years don't mean jack shit. It's all the same classes.

Friends are what make college.

I would make a list of pros and cons, then see what you think after doing that.

Take care,

I'd go to the school with the GLBT group, but, then again, I'm not looking to work really hard, either. Just depends on where your priorities are.

All that matters is that you have a college degree. In few careers does it matter where it's from.

Yeah the undergrad degree is marginally useless career-wise. The name is mostly imortant to grad schools and the like, and if you are entering a career you can get an undergrad from anywhere and then get into a good quality grad school. But, I find it the next best thing to impossible to believe that there isn't one single gay person there, and not one single out gay person. I don't care if you are Grove City or Notre Dame, there are ALWAYS gay people.

Yeah i agree w/ TJ about the college realm thing...

on the JH trip we went to Notre Dame to tour and go to the church (we have to go to church on JH trips - ptless and dumb since we are a public school organizaiton)...anyway, there was this one really hott gay guy there though...hmm...

but there will always be gay peole no matter what school you go to...i mean they say like 1 in 13 people are gay (i believe that number is right - if not please feel free to correct me) and in a college of 7000 people there is like at least 400 peopleish...
