History Help Needed!

hey guys

Ive been studying history a lot recently cos i have exams soon and want to do well.

BUT i am struggling with some of the topics and cannot find sufficient info on them.

If anyone knows anything about the Weimar Republic or Bismarck then please give me some info about them.... or tell me the addy of a site with good info on it... I searched on google but didnt find to-the-point information.

Sadly, I am turning into a walking Weimar textbook. Sigh. There are some great books out there, although if you are looking for online shit, most of the stuff I know is written in German. If you can speak German though, LeMO (http://www.dhm.de/lemo/home.html) is a great source for 20th century history. It has articles, and lots of media clips and artwork and shit. My favorite Weimar book is called "From Caligari to Hitler" by Siegfried Kracauer. It's not a history book per se, but it's film history (and let's face it, German film had its heyday in Weimar), and a very interesting read. Other people that are fun to look at from Weimar are Kurt Tucholsky, a satirist who has some hilarious social commentary that's very astute. Fritz Lang is THE filmmaker to talk about for Weimar, he's got some good movies. Take a look at Expressionist art, or especially "Dada" art, which is fun German art that is completely cracked out. Thomas Mann has some somewhat pedestrian but otherwise good works that were published in the Weimar period. If I were to suggest 2 books to read, they would be "All Quiet on the Western Front" and "Little Man What Now?", as they are great novels that really encapsulate the feelings of pre-Weimar, and the decline of Weimar, right before Hitler comes to power. Oh let's see what else. Prostitution was big. Weimar was great, but um, yeah, my brain is fried any more, so I can't think of anything else to tell you. Or at least any way to relate it without making it sound like I'm a pretentious twat.

I guess it's best to know a lot about all of them, and then you an properly choose.

I wrote my EE on the Russian Revolution, so I'm kinda crossing my fingers that I can bullshit Castro and Hitler, and then show off on Stalin and Lenin and people.

id actually stay away from wikipedia. Its a great place to go for information. However i know universities will not accept papers using wikipedia as a resource. It is to easy for someone to post false info on there. sorry i cant help you out wiht your homework. Just a thought though it may not be a good idea to use wikipedia.

Actually, I was listening to NPR and they said that compared to the Encyclopedia Britannica, Wikipedia has a error average of about 4 errors per article, as compared the the error average of 3 in the Encyclopedia Britannica.



So sure, while it may notbe accepted - use it.

It is an amazing resource.

Wikipedia is a good starting point. They generally offer links to other sites, sometimes more academic, as well as offering sources for a good many of their facts. With any other resource, you need to make sure you trust it, and not just take it at face value. Personally, if I were a professor I wouldn't like a paper citing wikipedia, not because I don't think it's reliable, but because it's a rather poor place to get anything other than very basic information.
