Nite

the sun falls below the horizon like a quarter dropped into a nickel film reel

and the show starts.

applause! applause! the smattering of stars with every clap.

silence - a hush comes over the audience as the moon appears.

and this is the best part!

the little girl enters, tiptoeing across stage

tugging at something, a rope, a string that will not come undone.

trying so hard to pull it down - her happiness - until she finally falls into pieces and puddles, broken on the floor.

the struggle proved to much for her, so now she silently sings herself to sleep,

the spotlite of the big silver moon cast down upon a lone being

slowly fading away as the stars blink and twinkle, but do not worry.

they will keep their lite.

whisper good nite to the little girl with tear-stained cheeks and matchstick fingers twined into her long, tangled hair.

good nite, angel.

tomorrow you will fly.
