hmm...i am not the best at interpertation, but to me i picture a middle aged man taking shots of liquoir becuase he is depressed about how nothing is going the way he dreamed, and how he always talked about having a swell life, and its not swell - thats why they are calling him a "liar"...

and things are becoming better but its a day too late (perhaps he was just fired from his job or perhaps a divorce just was finalized)...

but thats how i see it...like something big in his life just went wrong (being fired, divorced, etc) and he is emotionally upset and because of which is drinking...

haha, im glad i could help and i hope i have the same analysis as you did...

ususally in class everyone else has a different view them me (usually they all have the same and im in left field - though i still think im right) haha...
