Was just thinking about this place earlier today, I’m sure no one ever comes on here anymore. Just wanted to thank the people that were there that provided support and friendship in a time of need. I really wish more places like this existed today, and even more so as an adult. But alas, I just wanted to send out the thanks to whoever may receive it, as well as that I hope all of you are doing well in life, or at least better than when you were here.

No, no one usually comes on anymore. I've had to also stop registrations as it was all bots. It's pretty static now, although I had the site migrated to wordpress so that it could better be updated. I still keep the site up to date with patches and stuff, but otherwise it's pretty dead.

I wish I could find a method to block all the bots from registering and turn registration back on - but then also would love to have someone take over and dedicate their time to finding people to answer questions and the like.

I am alright. I still struggle with my mental health. I did come VERY close to getting the help I needed in 2018 but they were a student and had to move on before they could finish getting the information they wanted to make the recommendation to their supervisor. They tried though. I graduated in 2022, it should have been 2021 but that is a VERY long story as to why it was not, with a bachelors of science in computer science. I do not work in my field because AI boomed and good luck getting in now. I work full-time for the Canadian government in a very dead in job, so I am also in school full-time working on a post-grad certificate in cyber security.

I kind of worry that I am not learning ENOUGH to get a job when I am done and I REALLY wish I could have a tutor in this stuff. I am also on a medical leave because I have some stuff with my liver due to some other medical conditions I developed in my early 20s. The good news about my liver is, it was caught really early so there is no permanent damage and it should be okay in the long run. The medical leave is only 6 weeks and being Canadian, we have a program that pays me while I am on leave.

Beyond that, I have an instagram account for my cats (quintetofchaos), I have gotten into lego and have some cool builds, I have some really close friends, I am close with my sister's oldest 2 kids. Her oldest has graduated university, and she has 2 in university, and one in grade 11. I have nothing to do with my younger brother but I do miss his 3 kids. They are young. My parents and I have a rocky relationship at best.

While AI is great, it's not the end-all-be-all yet. I encourage/require my developers to use AI to code, but it's not good enough to build a complex system - it is good at simplistic systems though. Prompt engineers are what people need to become.

There comes a time where you will understand you can 'never' be ready for a job - you just have to take the leap of faith and actually start doing it. People understand we're all human and that we are not know it alls, and many times we don't know it and have to research it to get an answer. That's OK.

Also, just because AI is booming doesn't mean that there's no hope. There are jobs available.

Gov work is generally good, but if it's a dead-end job, that's a good thing that you have ambition and you are still learning. Just don't become a career student. I know some people who took 10+ years of post-secondary school because they were not focused and didn't want to stop going to school.
