HelpingTeens.org mentors are peer mentors and do not and never will claim to be professionals. We are teenagers helping fellow teens through their tough times, and nothing more. HelpingTeens is a network made up of teen mentors that have the desire to reach out and connect with one another. They are there to help guide the misguided and help as much as possible through advice based on their life experiences. Although it strives for timeliness and accuracy in all of its materials, HelpingTeens makes no representations, warranties, or assurances as to the availability, accuracy, currency, or completeness of this site or its contents. HelpingTeens shall not be liable for any damages or injury resulting from Your access to, inability to access, or use of this site, including, without limitation, any damages or injury arising from any content on this site or any links to other sites contained within or referred to in this site.

Privacy

HelpingTeens is committed to preserving Your right to privacy. HelpingTeens does not collect identifying information about You (such as Your name, address, telephone number, or email address) unless You voluntarily submit that information to us through our Feedback form, our Support Groups forums, or other means.

Any information You do submit to us is treated as confidential and is not sold or otherwise disclosed to third parties.

Our entire website use cookies for customization, statistical reasons, and some sections allow you to automatically log you in the next time you visit the page.

Staff Applications

The Staff Applications is the primary means of private information polling with HelpingTeens for a website visitor who is looking to be a prospective volunteer mentor or moderator. Website visitors may use the Staff Applications page to apply for a voluntary position at HelpingTeens. During this process, we require personal information (such as name, phone number, mailing address, personal related questions, etc) for legal reasons and in case of emergencies.

Feedback

Website visitors may use the Feedback page to send content suggestions or questions about the Articles, Live Chat, Support Groups or other areas of the site directly to the Administrators. Website visitors may also use this form to ask general questions about the Website or content, communicate privacy concerns, and/or submit praise and/or complaints. All comments are seen by the Administrators who handle all content-related issues and will use these comments, for instance, as ideas for generating new content or answering a question in a Q&A section on the site. All technical and operational issues are also handled by the Administrators. Any information submitted through the Feedback page stored for archiving purposes after it is read by the appropriate staff.

Support Groups forums

The information that is actively collected by the HelpingTeens Support Groups forums are email addresses of individuals who register in our Support Groups forums. These email addresses are used for communication between You and other people on the HelpingTeens Support Groups, the Administrators of the Support Groups to You, or the forum software to You. If You use the ‘Email’ button to email another user, your registered email address is released to the recipient so that they will be able to respond to You. If You do not want your email address released to other members, use the “PM” (Private Message) option. These addresses are not typically viewed by a human being unless there is some problem with the database. Visitors may opt-out of receiving emails sent out to user database by removing the checkbox within User CP > Edit Options > “Receive Email from Administrators”. All posts, PM’s, Emails, and connection information (IP Addresses, etc) are logged in our database and can be viewed by our Administrators at any time. For clarifications sake, all PM’s and Email communication through HelpingTeens may be monitored by an Administrator at any time.

When You visit the site, HelpingTeens may automatically collect certain non-identifying information about You, such as the type of browser or computer operating system You use or the domain name of the site from which You came from.

Any automatically collected information may be maintained indefinitely and used for our internal business and marketing purposes, such as assessing traffic patterns and usage of various features on the site, but will not be sold or otherwise disclosed to third parties for any purposes. Not withstanding any other statements or representations here or elsewhere on our site, HelpingTeens reserves its right to disclose any information in its possession if it is required to do so by law, or it believes, in good faith, that such a disclosure is necessary to comply with the law, defend its rights or property, or to respond to an emergency situation.

If You are concerned about the information You have provided to HelpingTeens or would like to review, update or delete that information, please contact us through our Feedback page. HelpingTeens will make reasonable efforts to comply with Your wishes.

A Note to Parents

Our website is intended to be a safe resource for children 13 and above to find useful, age-appropriate information. Although HelpingTeens is a non-commercial, nonprofit, private organization and as such is not subject to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), it takes children’s privacy very seriously. HelpingTeens does not share or sell the information sent to it, whether by children or anyone else. HelpingTeens does not collect any personally identifiable information from children with some exceptions. To all of its visitors, HelpingTeens offers the Staff Applications page, our Feedback page, our Support Groups forums, and other means. Visitors may fill out or sign up for any one of these that collects only volunteered information about the visitor – thus HelpingTeens does not know the age of any visitor who enrolls unless they volunteer it. Our Feedback page does not ask for any personally identifiable information other than an email address (to which it could be forged).

Security

HelpingTeens employs reasonable security measures to protect the personal information You submit to it. Such security involves the use of Firewalls, and other commonly employed security methods.

User Submissions

HelpingTeens welcomes Your comments on its site and Content. However, You acknowledge that if You send us creative suggestions, ideas, notes, drawings, concepts, inventions or other information, (collectively, the “Information”), the Information shall be deemed, and shall remain, the property of the website Administrators of HelpingTeens, provided that the site is non-profit. By submission of any Information to us, You assign to us and we shall exclusively own all now known or hereafter existing rights to such Information and shall be entitled to unrestricted use of the Information for any purpose whatsoever, without compensation to You. If the Domain name is ever sold, the content remains the property of the Administrators to make sure that the principal of this site with all of it’s content stays online. This content’s principal is to remain non-profit at all costs.

Articles and features published on this site undergo a rigorous editorial process that includes extensive review by the Administrators. However, all information on this site is for educational purposes only, written by teens and non-professional adults and therefore may be inaccurate in any of it’s content. The Administrators make every effort to be as neutral as possible with regard to gender, race, color, religion, and age. Within the articles, the site takes turns referring to teens and adults as “he” or “she.” Remember that even if an article says he or she, it is referring to male and female teens and adults, unless otherwise specified.
